Alton C. Crews Middle School Course Information and Classroom Management Plan 8th Grade Accelerated Coordinate Algebra/Geometry 2013-2014 Teacher: Susan LaViola E-mail: Susan_laviola@gwinnett.k12.ga.us Materials: Georgia Accelerated Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry Grading: Classwork: 10% Homework : 5% Quizzes/Projects/Writing Assignment(s): 20% Tests: 40% Benchmark/Interim Midterm Exams: 5% Comprehensive Final Exam: 20% Retest Plan: To view and/or print Crews Middle School's assessment retest plan guidelines and request form, go to the "School Information" section of the school's website: www.crews.org. Make-up Work/Late Policy: Students are responsible for finding out their missed assignments. Students can fall behind when absent; therefore, work needs to be made up as soon as possible. Retests will be given for any student that scores below an 80% on a summative (test) assessment. A parent/teacher conference will be requested, if a student consistently requests retests. 1) If a student is absent one day, one day will be given to make up the work missed. Two days, two days will be given, etc. 2) If a student is present when an assignment is given, the student is expected to have the assignment when he or she returns unless arrangements have been made with the teacher. 3) Work given for prearranged absences is due on the day the student returns. 4) Late work is a behavioral issue where discipline consequences may be imposed. 5) Late work will only be accepted up to the date of the current Unit Test. 6) A student may choose to turn in late-work for ½ credit or serve an academic detention on Wednesday mornings, in order to receive full credit. Upon successful completion of the Accelerated Geometry class, high school credit will be awarded unless specifically requested otherwise by the parent in writing. Regardless of whether credit is awarded, the state mandated End of Course Test will be reflected on the students’ high school transcript. Extra Help Time: 8:15 – 9:00 Wednesdays. Students may see teacher for additional help time when needed. This time is for making up missed work or receiving help. It is not a study hall or tutoring session. I am available to help answer the student’s questions. Eighth grade is a crucial year. Test average, aptitude, and work ethic will all play a major role in recommendation for high school courses. Therefore, it is imperative that students be present, be organized, have a daily study time, complete all assignments, and ask questions. All students will be asked to do all work in pencil and on graph paper, not notebook paper. *** Please note: This syllabus is subject to change as deemed necessary by the teacher based on students’ instructional needs.
