The NHBP is a federally recognized Indian Tribe. Our role as an Indian employer (and the role of each employee working for
the NHBP) is to provide preference criteria which creates employment opportunities and paths for promotions and learning to
increase management opportunities for qualified applicants and/or qualified employees who are Tribal members, parents or
spouses of Tribal members, and other Native American Indians of Federally recognized Tribes. All employees are required

POSITION SUMMARY
The System Administrator - Servers role is to design, install, administer, and optimize servers
and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications
including RPMS (health), Fund ware (accounting) Progeny (enrollment). This includes ensuring
the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and
developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the client server environment.
This position will also share responsibility for Network Security.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, and
delete and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities, and positions titles as it deems
necessary to meet the needs of the government.












Ensure the availability of client/server applications.
Configure all new implementations, and develops processes and procedures for ongoing
management of the server environment
Assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the servers and tribal data.
Provide day-to-day support to employees for computer/network support.
Install, administer, and optimize servers and related components.
Ensure daily backups of the Tribe’s network servers.
Stay up to date with technology trends and improvements.
Coordinate moves, adds and changes in regards to all technology equipment.
Provide daily one-on-one user training with end users when questions arise.
Address causes, not symptoms, striving to prevent problems from recurring.
Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications: An individual must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform each
essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the
knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:





















Microsoft Certification MCITP: Server Administrator on Windows Server 2008 with a
minimum one year experience required or a College diploma or university degree in
computer science or related field with3 years of experience, or any combination of education
and experience equivalent to seven [7] years’ work experience, required.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 required.
Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or higher,
Microsoft SQL Server, Enterprise backups, SAN. Experience with DNS, WINS, and DHCP,
RDP.
Prior experience with Windows server performance tuning and monitoring and protection
tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to effectively prioritize and
execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Customer service orientation with the ability to present ideas in business and user-friendly
language.
Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Prior work history that demonstrates a commitment to team-building, constructive problemsolving, maintain high level of performance with no or minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Must be assessable. Ability to work days, nights, week-ends and holidays as needed with or
without notice such as during a network/system outage or during a maintenance window.
Ability to understand, gain knowledge and appreciate the differences with the Native
American culture and customs.
Must maintain a valid driver's license with good driving record; GSA certifiable.
Must be able to travel.
Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
Excellent computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets and knowledge of
other office equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, constructive and cooperative working relationships
with others and maintain them over time.
Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve
problems.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the Executive Team, Tribal Council and
other departmental leaders.
Ability to carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS








Familiarity with TCP/IP and LAN/WAN network protocols, firewall management, and
operating system configuration.
Security intrusion/breech hardening concepts preferred.
Experience with performance monitoring tools in a heterogeneous computing environment
preferred.
Experience in general VMWare administration, monitoring and management tools.
Advanced knowledge of server hardware, including SCSI, RAID, and I/O topology.
Knowledge of telephone technologies including, analog, digital, VOIP, and SIP trunking.
Experience working in a medical environment where HIPAA Privacy and Security rules
apply.
Experience with IHS/RPMS database and applications.
SECURITY SENSITIVE
This position may contain information that is security sensitive and thereby subject to additional

regulations and the NHBP IT Security Policy.
INDIAN PREFERENCE
Indian sovereignty support and Indian preference initiatives are mandatory. Indian preference
will be applied in the selection of qualified applicants in accordance with the NHBP Indian
Preference in Employment Code, which affords employment preferences to NHBP Tribal
citizens, spouses of NHBP citizens and members of other federally recognized Indian Tribes.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable

Incumbent will work mainly in an office setting, handling administrative duties for NHBP
employees and/or tribal community members. The incumbent must be able to work in an
environment that may include emotionally stressful situations, politics and family conflicts.
Incumbent must be able to travel to meetings and tribal facilities.
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk and hear.
The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The
employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance,
and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by
this job include close, distance, color, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise
level in the work environment is usually quiet.
