JOB NUMBER: FAC-11-005 JOB TITLE: Janitor Supervisor: Facilities Manager Status: Non-Exempt Salary: Grade 1 POSITION SUMMARY The incumbent of this position will function under the direction of the Senior Maintenance Worker. The Janitor will focus on maintaining clean and orderly conditions in all governmental buildings, out-buildings, associated facilities and grounds keeping duties located on or near the Pine Creek Reservation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete, and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities and position titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government. Cleans floors and applies floor drier. Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, stairways and eating areas and other work areas as defined. Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies. Dusts furniture and equipment. Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork. Washes windows, door panels and sills. Empties wastebaskets and empties and cleans ashtrays. Transports trash and waste to disposal area. Replenishes bathroom supplies. Replaces light bulbs. In charge of transporting recyclables to facilities in Battle Creek. Applies Ice melter and shovel all building approaches. Perform other duties as assigned. 1 | Page TC Approval 11/15/12 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An individual must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications. High school diploma or equivalent or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to understand, gain knowledge and appreciate the differences with the Native American culture and customs. Must maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record; GSA certifiable. Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screening. Must be in good physical condition, able to lift up to 60 lbs overhead. Ability to perform strenuous and repetitive physical labor. Take direction and perform duties without continuous supervision. Ability to operate small and medium size mechanical equipment. Ability to learn and follow safety rules. Willingness to learn new skills as required. Dependability, initiative, good judgment and team orientated attitude required. The individual must deal with the general public and co-workers with tact, courtesy, respect, objectivity and maturity. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Three years’ experience in janitorial and/or custodial duties. Ability to operate large mechanical equipment, including plow truck, electrical saws and/or welding equipment.
