GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Advantage Filters, TabTec and FLEXIfilter
The Advantage filter line is a complete line of particulate, chemical and combination cartridges, providing the best in light-weight
and high-performance filters.
The patented TabTec filter technology allows the design of high-Performance filters that require only minimal housing.
With its extremely flat design, the MSA FLEXIfilter is a superb alternative to traditional particle filters.
Available as P2 or P3, as well as with a layer against nuisance odours (OR) which also protects against ozone.
The three filter lines are for use with Advantage 3200 Series and Advantage 200.

Standard Thread Filters
The greatest experience and know-how, as well as one of the widest ranges in the market make MSA filters the first choice for
users in all industries. The high-performance particle filter P3 PlexTec and all combination filters are using
MSA’s PlexTec filter media. The significantly increased filtering surface reduces breathing resistance and results in slightly more
relaxed breathing as well as more compact filter housings. The MSA Series of Gas and Combination filters are in full compliance with
the REACH regulation and does not include any toxic materials listed in the European Regulation.
The Standard Thread Filters can be used with Advantage 3100 Series Filter Mask.
Breathable air is a basic element of everyday life.
If the air is contaminated by harmful substances, such as solid particles, aerosols, gases and vapors, breathing protection
is required. The respiratory protective filters, subject of this compilation, provide a reliable protection against most toxic
gases, vapors and aerosols, as well as solid particles. They can be used with half or full face masks or powered air purifying
respirators.
Note: Breathing protection is divided into two segments:
Protection independent of ambient air
Protection dependent on ambient air
→
→
self contained breathing apparatus
respiratory filters, filtering face pieces
Before and while using respiratory filters, please take care of the following regulations:
Requirements
Respiratory protection with filters is dependent on the ambient atmosphere.
Therefore the oxygen content in the inhalation air must suffice at least 17 vol.-%!
Local regulations concerning the use of filtering devices, the requested oxygen content and the threshold limit values may differ
INFORMATION PACK
Technical Information FILTERS
and must always be observed.
In order to use filtering respirators, the type, properties and composition of the hazardous agent in the ambient air must be
known. Use protection independent of ambient air if anything of the aforesaid is not known to you, you are not sure or you
believe the atmosphere could change disadvantageous.
When using a particle filter, no hazardous gases must be present. When using a gas filter no hazardous particles. In case of
doubt a combined filter must be used.
Filtering devices must not be used in confined spaces such as containers, canals, etc. due to unsafe air ventilation.
On quarter and half face masks it is only allowed to use filters with a weight < 300g. On full face masks it
is only allowed to use filters with a weight < 500g must be used.
Never use filters that are damaged!
Regulations
Particle filters
The particle content in the ambient air must not exceed the following values:
Class
Quarter/half mask
Full face mask
P2
10 times the limit value
15 times the limit value
P3
30 times the limit value
400 times the limit value
When using particle filters against radioactive substances, microorganisms [virus, bacteria, fungi and spores thereof] and
biochemical active substances [enzymes, hormones], only P3 filters with full face masks or mouthpiece assemblies must be used.
The filters must be used only once
Gas filters
The gas concentration in the ambient air should not exceed the following values:
Quarter/half mask
Full face mask
30 times the limit value
400 times the limit value
Note: Hazardous gases that are heavier than air may have a higher concentration near the ground.
AX-filters
Gases and vapors of organic compounds with a boiling point < 65°C are detained to a minor degree by activated carbon.
Therefore notice the special regulations for gas filters against low boiling compounds which are marked at the according data
sheets.
End of service time
The service time of respiratory filters depends on the conditions of use.
For gas filters the end of service time can be detected by odor or taste on the clean air side. The filters must then be replaced.
Filters that are used against hazardous gases whose breakthrough cannot be detected by odor, taste or irritation, require
special regulations concerning duration and usage that depend on the conditions of use. Otherwise a protection independent
of the ambient air must be used.
Note: The service time of respiratory filters also depends on the following conditions:

Filter Selection Guide
[Alphabetical List of Industrial Gases and Toxic Substances]
In order to help your selection of the right filter, search for the right protection in the following tables.
For all gases and vapors which may be present in combination with particles (dust, smokes, mist, spray) a combined filter
(protection from gases and particles) must be used. The filter recommendations are based on pure substances. With mixtures,
by-products, or decomposition products, the impurities must be taken into account.
AX Filters must be used for compounds with a boiling point below 65 °C.
If the list hereunder mentions a particle filter (e. g. A–P 2) for a specific substance, particles are commonly found with the
gas or vapor.
