JOB DESCRIPTION
Post Title: Leisure Assistant (to include: Sports coach /Gym instructor/
Lifeguard/Swim Teacher)
Reporting To: Leisure Centre Managing Director/Assistant Manager
Full/Part Time: hours to be confirmed
Salary: dependant on age.
A. Job Purpose & Objectives

To supervise and assist the Leisure Centre customers.

To ensure the best possible value and an enjoyment is provided to all visitors to the Centre..
To be a proactive member of the Leisure Centre team.
Promote an ethos of excellence in customer, client and stakeholder services.
To understand the business and budgetary performance of the Centre
B. Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. To contribute to operating the Leisure Centre in a professional and business orientated
manner, in accordance with the Industrial & Provident Society’s aims and objectives,
recognising the need to achieve all targets and other performance indicators set.
2. To ensure that the highest level of customer service is being delivered at all times, by all team
members recognizing and communicating its importance and relevance to the success of the
centre.
3. To supervise customers in the swimming pool and sports hall and gym, ensuring their safety
and discipline
4. To carry out pool supervision duties and all other duties in accordance with the operational
procedures.
5. To provide customers with a safe environment and comply with all safe systems of work.
6. To ensure all plant and machinery is operated in accordance with instructions.
7. To comply with all health and safety regulations.
8. To maintain high levels of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the Leisure Centre and prepare
the facilities for customer use.
9. Ensure that customer comments and complaints are handled professionally, with issues dealt
with in accordance to operational procedures and recorded.
10. To cover, as appropriate and in accordance with training and experience, other areas of the
centre, including reception, sales, marketing and special events and any activity hosted by the
centre.
11. To fully participate in the performance review process and personal development planning.
12. Undertake training as necessary in line requirements of regulations to ensure the
development of the post and agreed with Leisure Centre Managing Director. Occasionally
training or meetings are organised outside normal working hours; the post holder will be
expected to attend whenever reasonably practicable.
13. To achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development
within agreed timescales.
14. To contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which the
postholder works.
15. To undertake any other duties at the request of the Leisure Centre Manager which are
commensurate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
C. The implementation of the community vision and the business plan for the Camelford
Leisure
Centre starts with our staff and their actions and attitude permeates through all our business. It is
essential to protect the image and reputation of the Leisure Centre and therefore it is a condition of
employment that all employees uphold the ethos of the Industrial & Provident Society’s aims and
objectives by positively promoting and representing the Leisure Centre.

Qualified as STA Pool Lifeguard or equivalent
Leisure industry background
IT Skills
Working knowledge of office software
Ability and understanding of how to relate to
customers of all ages and
Good administrative skills
Ability to work proactively in all areas of
operation.
Ability to work as part of a team and also to work
on own un-supervised.
Coaching skills and qualifications in various
sports.(paid at coaching rates)
Experience in a leisure facility
A good working knowledge of health + safety
It would be beneficial to also have a swim
teaching qualification (paid at teaching rates)
Current first aid at work qualification
Pool plant management qualification
Experience
Qualifications/Training
Competent as STA Pool Lifeguard or equivalent.
Qualified as STA Pool Lifeguard or equivalent
High levels of Customer service
Qualifications or training in ICT
Pool side supervision or leisure related
experience
Health + Safety at work certificate
Coaching and leading activities including kids
clubs and adult activities
Coaching qualifications in a variety of sports
especially gym instruction
Teaching STA swimming curriculum to all ages
STA swim teaching qualification
Recent first aid certificated training
Personal qualities required:
Good interpersonal, communications and presentation skills with the ability to relate to a wide range
of audiences. Able to work flexibly, meet deadlines and understand instructions from Leisure Centre
Management, team worker, available to work unsocial hours. Willing to attend training courses as
required
Post subject to completion of satisfactory criminal record disclosure
