Programme description
The study is designed as a continuing Master’s programme for non-teachers, which is a
continuation (and is closely connected to) the Bachelor's programmes dealing with special
education. It builds on the acquired knowledge and deepens it so as to ensure the ability to carry
out independent education, upbringing, diagnostics, therapy and counselling for persons with
impairment (or otherwise socially disadvantaged people). The study programme is also designed
to allow specialization in the following areas:
Graduate’s profile and opportunities
Specialization: Special education – early intervention
The graduate will have general knowledge on the Master’s level in the basic fields of science
needed for special education – ethics, general sociology, general psychology, and general
pedagogy. The graduate will also possess the knowledge of special education on an adequate level
and in the extent of the special education disciplines.
Early intervention module
The graduates
1. understand diagnostic focused on the population with impairments in early age are
prepared to cooperate with other disciplines;
2. propose methods and forms of early intervention
3. plan and perform various activities in families or in institutional care;
4. can utilize their expertise in education, health care, social care and social services;
5. are prepared for further development and growth in qualification;
6. are able to communicate with and use the offers of grant agencies, which finance the
practical and research activities in the form of grant projects;
7. are able to present the outcomes of their work in the form of publications in national and
foreign journals.
Specialization: Special education – ortho-communication counselling
The graduate will have overall knowledge on the Master’s level in the basic fields of science
needed for special education – ethics, general sociology, general psychology, and general
pedagogy. The graduate will also possess the knowledge of special pedagogy on an adequate level
and in the extent of the special education disciplines.
Ortho-communication module
The graduates:
1. understand diagnostic focused on the population with communication difficulties;
2. are prepared to cooperate with other professionals;
3. propose methods and forms of intervention focused on communication difficulties;
4. plan and perform various activities in families or in institutional care;
5. can utilise their expertise in education, health care, social care and social services;
6. are prepared for further development and growth of qualification;
7. are able to communicate with and use the offers of grant agencies, which finance the
practical and research activities in the form of grant projects;
8. are able to present the outcomes of their work in the form of publications in national and
foreign journals.
Admission requirements:
The programme will accept graduates of Bachelor's programme focused on special
education. The applicant must prove his/her fitness for study in a motivation letter (in English)
and a profile essay 15 000 – 20 000 symbols long, focused on the area of ortho-communication
or early intervention special pedagogy counselling. The applicant is expected to send an electronic
version of his/her graduation thesis (graduation project).
The applicants are required to send:
- written application;
- motivation letter and profile essay (see information above);
- copy of his/her graduation certificate translated into English and verified by a notary
to the address
by 31 August 2015.
