Meeting Minutes October 7th, 2015

Come to order at 4:33pm

Attendance: 35

Quorum: Yes

Approval of last meetings minutes: Motion to approve last week’s minutes by Jaclyn Whoberry and seconded by Michael Mann. Motion

Passed.

Guests:

Ashley Ireland, Dean of Libraries:

Waterfield library will close at 4:30pm on Friday, October 9 and it is possible that the library will open

Saturday, October 10 at noon. To compensate for this, Pogue Library will be open Friday night until

8:00pm only for extended study seating. However, there is no computer lab, a limited number of laptops, and the wireless internet isn’t as dense at Pogue Library. A renovation project is in place to gut all of the restrooms and add electrical outlets in the floors. If you have recommendations or questions about the library and its resources, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Dr. Renee Fister, Senior Presidential Advisor for Strategic Initiatives:

I am here to answer any questions you have. There are some tuition remodeling options open and are being discussed with the Board of Regents. However, whatever new changes that will take place in regards to tuition will only affect incoming students – therefore, it will not affect students currently enrolled. The President’s State of the Union Address is November 9 at 2:30pm in Wrather Auditorium. I want to encourage you to be safe during homecoming, have fun, and attend all of the events.

Jeanie Morgan, Advisor to SGA and Student Organizations:

For Homecoming parking, we recommend that you carpool to the parade site. Main Street, Fourth

Street, and Industrial Road will be closed for the parade. At the court square, there will be available parking options. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use the food truck in the morning. Hopefully, there will be SGA alumnae visiting this week, so if you are in the CSI Office, be kind, tell them who you are, and that you are happy they are here.

Paula Amols, Director of Dining Services:

Beginning this week, there will be an additional half hour of service in the T-room on Mondays,

Tuesdays, and Wednesdays until 3:30pm. The grill will be open as well as packaged food items. The Pony

Express will be at the Homecoming parade Saturday morning and will participate in the parade.

Lambert’s dinner at Winslow is October 21. Nothing has been decided at this point about Lunch with the

President. There might not be time to have an event such as this, but he will be at other large events on campus, so you can attend and see him.

I met with facilities management and they had a directors meeting the next day in regard to our suggestions. Call boxes at White and Regents: A project has been set up for one call box, but there is currently not funding for two call boxes. Adding more funds to the project to order two call boxes is being discussed. We hope to be able to order and install one or both of these this semester. White and

Regents Parking Lot Lighting: This will be looked at and evaluated for possible changes. Lighting between

Curris and Carr Health: This will be looked at and evaluated for possible changes. Mowing in front of

Richmond on Waldrop Drive: I think this has been addressed and will continue to be maintained as it is not all MSU property. Speed bumps in the dorm circle: This is being addressed as part of our ongoing parking lot rehab and repairs. Pedestrian bridge concrete: We are currently doing a study of all sidewalks on campus to evaluate repair needs. Concrete walks: We are currently doing a study of all sidewalks on campus to evaluate repair needs. Waldrop Drive patch: This was completed on September

25. Due to the continued construction, it will likely have to be done again next year. Crosswalk on

Chestnut at Waldrop Drive: I have talked to the State Highway Department and they will plan to repaint the crosswalk. Jason Youngblood said thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. The students are our eyes and ears for many things on campus like the list above.

Money saving tip of the week: Tax avoidance is legal – find a loophole in the system and you could get more money back on your taxes. However, tax evasion is illegal. Don’t forget to get on Mygate and vote for homecoming king and queen.
