TANAUAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL AND
SPONTANEOUS SETTLEMENTS.
Tent sites assessed in coordination with ARC.
2-
TANAUAN
CENTRAL
ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL
Main findings:
Site 1 Tanauan National High School
110 HH in 105 tents
9.300m2
20 latrines
8 showering stations
4 hand washing stations
1 water bladder and 1 shared water bladder with Site 2
Site 2 Tanauan Central Elementary School
47 HH in 44 tents
2.500m2
10 latrines
4 showering stations
2 hand washing stations
1 shared water bladder with Site 1
The sites although at present without site management, have proper service provision in terms of water, hygiene,
food and health. Although next to each other they are considered as separate sites. Site No 1 is better organized
in terms of layout, in Site No 2 the tents have not as carefully been placed as in No 1, leading to a congested site
with no fire breaks and no transit space between rows of tents. Recommendations are to use the expansions
areas A and B to remove one row of tents and space better the remaining tents.
Most of the school classrooms are damaged except for 3 to 4 classrooms that still have a roof.
Chlorination of water was ongoing and the standard used was 0,2 whereas in emergencies it should 0.5.
Site 1 has electric solar panels with a grid of led lamps and site 2 has none, only family solar lamps.
Both sites had sub committees and sporadic visits from MSWD.
CCCM recommendation is to consider both sites as one due to proximity and the reduced site management
capacity. Expansion is possible but only after re accommodation of site 2. Need to explore schooling solution as
bothe site 1 and 2 occupy school grounds and the school buildings are destroyed. Given the reduced options for

relocation within Tanauan, and depending on the speed of facilitation of return, this site will need to remain open
until durable solutions are found.
Assessment of Barangay San Roque (Shoreline)
Southern portion presents families living in tents back in their own plot with no tendency to cluster, sharing
toilettes with supportive neighbours. Water for general purposes obtained through water pumps and drinking
water available nearby from chlorinated trucks.
Northern portion presents a high density of families living in tents clustered together. The area, one of the most
affected is full of debris. Not many water pumps, no toilettes or latrines, drinking water available at the church.
Families living on the beach in tents as no space available due to debris. This northern portion of San Roque is
considered as a site due to clusterization of families and need for communal provision of services.
Next CCCM Cluster Meeting: MONDAY 4.30 pm at OCD room in OSOCC-Grand Stand
