By the end of this unit, students will demonstrate knowledge of ancient river valley civilizations including those of

Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus River Valley, and China and the civilizations of the Hebrews, Phoenicians, and

Nubians by:

1.

Being able to locate these civilizations and place them in the correct time periods.

2.

Describing the development of social, political, and economic patterns – including slavery.

3.

Explaining the development of religious traditions in these societies.

4.

Describing the origins, beliefs, traditions, customs, and spread of Judaism.

5.

Explaining the development of language and writing.

Objectives:

We will be able to explain the key features of the Ancient Chinese Civilization and compare it with those of the other three River Valley Civilizations.

Closing Task:

I will write one direct comparison statement between Ancient Chinese Civilization and any of the other three River

Valley Civilizations using ONE of the SPICE Themes.

Read and outline Chapter 2, Sections 4. You will have a quiz when you come to class on this material, but you can use your outline!

Complete the Ancient China Map – you will be graded on ACCURACY AND NEATNESS!!!!!

3.

Begin studying for you Era I: River Valley Civilizations Exam that will be on NEXT Thursday, Oct. 23 rd !!!
