Era I: Human Origins and Early Civilizations, Prehistory to 1000 B.C. (B.C.E.)
By the end of this unit, students will demonstrate knowledge of ancient river valley civilizations including those of
Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus River Valley, and China and the civilizations of the Hebrews, Phoenicians, and
Nubians by:

Oct. 16/17 – River Valley Civilization Unit Exam
Objectives:
We will be able to explain the key features of the Ancient Chinese Civilization and compare it with those of the other
three River Valley Civilizations.
Closing Task:
I will write one way in which the Ancient Chinese Civilization made an impact on the civilizations that followed.
Part I – Finish the China Lecture (25 minutes) Whole Class
Follow along and fill out the note page that goes along with the China Lecture. NOTE: this lecture will follow the format
that was established with the Ancient Egypt lecture where not everything is written on the Powerpoint, meaning you
MUST pay attention to the lecture to obtain the necessary information.
Part II – Return and Review Egypt and Mesopotamia Quiz (15 Minutes)
We will hand back your quiz on Egypt and Mesopotamia and go over the most frequently missed questions.
You will also be given the opportunity to ask questions that you may have about a specific question that you got
wrong.
Part III – Ancient China Activity (30 minutes) Partner
During this activity we will continue to develop our understanding of Ancient Chinese Civilization while also comparing
it to the other Ancient River Valley Civilizations.
Homework:
The following assignments are due NEXT CLASS (October 16-17):
1. Study for the Early River Valley Civilizations Exam – this covers all of Chapter 2 and the notes on
Mesopotamia (Sumer), Egypt, Indus, and Ancient China.
