MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM in APPLIED ECONOMICS
WITH FOCUS ON FISCAL POLICY
GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY, ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA
USAID is seeking applications for a Master’s Degree Program in Applied Economics
with focus on Fiscal Policy at the Georgia State University (GSU). Only 3 to 5 slots
remain in this year’s program, which starts in July 1, 2011 and runs until December 2012.

Background: The Indonesian economy is developing very rapidly and requires welltrained economists to occupy a broad range of positions in the public, academic and
private sectors. Fiscal policy skills play a strategic role in being able to manage various
economic, financial, and budget functions. To meet the growing demand for such skills,
this GSU program has been developed.
Overall the Program will train and award master degrees to 30 Indonesian students who
have taken course-work specifically designed to the needs of the Indonesian participants;
have conduct, disseminated and publicized applied research; and have learned techniques
and appropriate technology in the academic and outreach components of the program.
The Georgia State University’s Fiscal Policy program runs for 18 months, starting July 1,
2011. Selection criteria includes: 1) a minimum score of 550 on the paper based
TOEFL* (79 on the internet based test); 2) a minimum of 1016 in GRE* scores; 3)
appropriate academic training in Economics or other relevant fields, with preference for
those who already have an Indonesian Master’s degree; 4) demonstrated academic and
