Dear 9th Grade Parent,
My name is John Bushman, president of the Albert Einstein High School (AEHS)
Booster Club. The Club was founded in 1970 as a nonprofit parent organization to support the
athletic programs and student-athletes at AEHS. I’m hopeful that in the future we can expand to
include other after-school activities our children are involved in.
But we need your help, so I’m asking you to join us as soon as you can. Because our challenge is
that parents “graduate” from the Boosters when their kids do. So we’re essentially always in a
rebuilding mode.
You, though, can help us keep programs alive that have made a big difference for our kids. And
membership is tax-deductible!
Since its start, the Booster Club has provided scholarships to senior athletes and money to cover
shortfalls in MCPS athletic funding. How do we do this? Through Booster Club membership
dues, and spirit wear, concessions and spring mulch sales.
If you want part of your dues to go to a specific team, you can do that. The Booster Club
maintains team accounts to support team needs. Students, parents and coaches can also build
funds for their team by working in concessions or at the mulch sale and holding fundraisers.
The positive role that families play in student achievement has been well documented. We know
students do better when their families are actively involved in their education. They receive
higher grades and test scores. They have higher homework completion rates and fewer
discipline issues. And they have higher graduation rates and are more likely to pursue a
postsecondary education.
I urge you to get involved. While your student may not show it, you can be sure they’ll be glad
you did. And Booster parents can tell you that it’s great to meet parents on the same journey!
