PEER MENTOR DIRECTOR
NORTH CENTRAL UNIVERSITY
Summary Statement:
Peer Mentor Directors provide leadership to the Peer Mentor program and New Student
Orientation. Four Peer Mentor Directors, one for each college cohort (College of Arts & Sciences,
College of Ministry/Institute of Biblical and Theological Studies, College of Fine Arts, College of
Missions) will provide direction and guidance to a team of Peer Mentors within their college.
Peer Mentor Directors will help to administer a successful New Student Orientation, focusing on
providing a quality transitional experience for first-year students. Directors will help to develop
balanced programming for first-year students, promoting the integration of both community and
academic involvement into the first-year experience.
Minimum Requirements:

Commit to a full academic year of service in only one student leadership role
Be a full-time NCU student (minimum of 12 credits per semester)
Have and maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or above
Have completed or be enrolled in Leadership Development I (GS 280)
Have no unresolved disciplinary or chapel attendance concerns
Be current on your student account with North Central University
Juniors and Seniors are preferred, but other qualified applicants will be considered
Priority will be awarded to candidates who effectively demonstrate the following characteristics:
1) Intentionally cultivate and model a mature and growing relationship with Christ
2) Actively demonstrate servant leadership as exemplified by Christ
3) Strive to follow and support North Central University community standards, policies, and
leadership, including confronting and/or reporting student behavior as necessary
4) Advance the vision of the Student Leadership Program, New Student Orientation, and
supervising Advisor(s) through cooperative teamwork, community development,
individual relationships, and programming efforts
5) Actively speak and act positively regarding North Central University and maintain a
positive attitude throughout the year
6) Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7) Possess and answer questions regarding knowledge of university resources
Primary/Regular Responsibilities:
1) Assist staff in planning and executing New Student Orientation during Welcome Week,
attending and serving at all activities
2) Co-facilitate a weekly Foundations of Leadership class during the Spring semester

Help to develop college-specific applications of the curriculum
Serve as a resource for college-specific information
Observe and provide regular feedback to peer mentors
Intentionally cultivate community among Peer Mentors
Assist in the development and distribution of class discussion materials
Plan and facilitate weekly planning and accountability meetings (Monday evenings at
9:30pm)
9) Lead in the development and execution of Peer Mentor-sponsored events (one social
event & one academically-focused, college-specific event)
Training and Meetings:
Meet weekly with Peer Mentor Director team
Biweekly one-on-ones with Staff Advisor
Monday evening meetings: weekly at 9:30pm
Wednesday lunch meetings in Fall 2014 semester: (9/3, 9/17, 10/1, 10/15, 10/29)
Student leadership training:
a. Spring Leadership Kick-off: Sunday, April 13, 2014 (4-8pm)
b. Fall Leadership Training: August 20-22, 2014
c. Winter Leadership Training: January 11 – 13, 2015
d. Student Leadership In-service: one Monday a month from 9:30-11:00pm
6) Peer Mentor Spring Training Date: April 5, 2014
7) Peer Mentor Fall Training Dates: August 18-19, 2014 (in addition to fall leadership
training dates)

Application Process:
Candidates for Peer Mentor Director positions should complete and submit a Peer Mentor
Director application online no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014. Individual
interviews will take place Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 7, 2014.
Compensation:
1) A 1-credit tuition scholarship for each semester of service (approx. $677/semester)
2) On-going leadership training and development
3) Personal access to professional staff for mentoring relationships
4) Food and lodging costs during pre-semester leadership training
