Name___Ashley Sanders_____ ________ RED 4350 Summer 2012 A webquest lesson plan is a perfect way to incorporate many different learning styles and fun assignments for students. In this webquest lesson, students incorporate the use of literature circles to discuss specific novels to understand and analyze life during the Civil War. In this lesson, I sequenced lessons and concepts to ensure coherence and require prior knowledge by having students activate prior knowledge by journaling what they know of life during the Civil War. Students will be able to refer back to their thoughts during their literature circles when discussing with their groups events occurring in their novels. In addition, the webquest is aligned with the literature circles to understand how important different battles in the war were to not only the soldiers but as the civilians as well. This lesson is designed for student mastery by including differentiated instruction throughout the lesson. First, students are able to choose roles for their webquest based on the different learning styles. Some roles are perfect for artistic students, where as others are more for students who appreciate writing or research. As a group, students are able to come up with presentations that appeal to everyone in the group based on what they enjoy. Students can make presentations that are more traditional like PowerPoint, or movie trailers, role-playing, or another creative presentation. With the amount of freedom and choice included in this lesson, student mastery would be very encouraging. This lesson plan develops learning experiences that require students to demonstrate a variety of applicable skills by giving students choice in the webquest as well as different mini assignments in the literature circles. Unlike the webquest, students will have a different role each meeting for the literature circle. This allows each student to complete a variety of different skills in the discussion of their novels. Students will work on their summarizing, vocabulary, analyzing, and connecting skills in the literature circles. This allows students to evaluate the novel in many different ways. Built into this lesson are varied instructional strategies including appropriate technology to provide comprehensible instruction, and to teach for student understanding by including many different technologies. In this lesson, students use the internet to research different battles of the Civil War, as well Name___Ashley Sanders_____ ________ RED 4350 Summer 2012 as create different presentations using different internet sources or software. Students will look at different primary documents, websites, and scholarly journals to understand and comprehend different facts and events during the Civil War. In addition, students will have the freedom to use different programs available through the internet to create their presentations including but not limited to prezi, PowerPoint, and moviemaker. This webquest lesson plan incorporates many different learning styles and technologies to achieve the deepest amount of comprehension for students. Through the process of the webquest and literature circle, students will deeply understand what life was like during the war and the different battles that affected the people during this time period.
