POSITION DESCRIPTION Position COMMUNITY ACCESS SERVICE DISABILITY SUPPORT WORKER Office location Community Access Service 110 Wentworth Street, Blackheath, NSW 2785 BANC Central office location Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre Inc (BANC). Accountability and reporting This position reports to Program Coordinators and then to the CAS Manager. BANC operates on a governance model of management in which all operational decisions are made by the BANC Manager, subject to the policies, principles, strategic objectives and budget parameters established by the Management Committee. Directly supervises Nil Internal liaisons CAS Support Workers, CAS program Coordinators, CAS manager External liaisons Community members and facilities staff Conditions of employment SCHCADS Award Level 2 Position duration Casual. Hours dependent on service requirements. Organisation context Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre is a multipurpose neighbourhood centre servicing the Upper Blue Mountains areas of Blackheath, Medlow Bath, Shipley, Megalong, Mt Victoria and Mt Wilson. Gardiner Crescent, Blackheath NSW 2785 The Community Access Service is a sub-program of BANC specialising in providing day programs for people with disabilities and people with mental health issues. CAS has a broader geographical area of coverage than BANC, drawing from the wider Blue Mountains and Lithgow areas as well as from the Western Sydney region. Position objectives To ensure that people who are accessing these Projects receive a quality service. That staff, Management and Client interact in a mature and respectful manner. That all clients get the opportunity to access their community. That clients develop and maintain interaction with peer groups. To assist clients to maximise their independence. To assist clients to develop and maintain good self-esteem. To empower clients to make informed choices. Judgment and decision making This position, receives support and advice from the program coordinators, and requires the ability to provide support to people in line with their person centered plans. Interpersonal skills Well-developed oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop positive working relationships with stakeholders including staff, service participants and service partners a) Adhere to the Disability Services Act NSW (1993) b) Recognise the Dignity of Risk and the least restrictive alternative for clients, while meeting staff Duty of Care responsibilities c) Provide support to recreation, leisure, living skills programmes d) Contribute to the identification of the participant’s needs, interests, and goals, and in the assessment of living skills needs e) Complete client and centre documentation and baseline data as directed by program Coordinators. f) Prepare for, and support clients to participate in activities either in a group setting or on an individual 1 to 1 basis. . g) Transport clients in any one of BANC’s vehicles as required, including transferring clients into vehicles with wheelchair hoist where necessary h) Administer medication to clients as required i) Assist with personal care where necessary and required j) Contribute to the team environment at BANC and its overall aims k) Collect and make available relevant data on recreation, leisure activities and programmes l) Attend and contribute to Staff Meetings as directed m) Read relevant minutes and memorandums n) Adhere to BANC’s financial policies and procedures o) Maintain BANC resources within the guidelines of its policies and procedures. p) Use BANC vehicles by following its vehicle procedures q) Promote all projects and activities of BANC r) Any other relevant duties as directed by the Program Co-ordinator and/ or Community Access Service Manager Position responsibilities Key selection criteria 1. Minimum Certificate 3 in Mental Health, Disability or higher qualification, or extensive experience working with people who have a disability and/or mental health issues. 2. Ability to work as a member of a team. 3. An understanding of the challenges faced by people with disability and people with mental health issues, both on a personal and broader BLACKHEATH AREA NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE INC. Strong commitment to advocacy 6. Current drivers licence 7. Current resume and contact details of two referees 8. Current First Aid Certificate. Other selection criteria 1. Qualifications in community welfare, disability, mental health or a related field. 2. Special interest or skills in sports or arts.
