Tooling Engineer / Storeman

Responsible For:
Reporting to the ‘Manufacturing Engineer’, you are to participate in the
maintenance of an effective and optimal tool stores management system in
accordance with the ‘Merc Stores Outline Specification’.
To store, purchase, receive, issue and control tooling and accessories, in a
manner that ensures there are no hold-ups in production, and at the same time,
that production can run at the most efficient manner.
Maintaining a tidy and organised stores system (including the ‘satellite’ stores
areas)
Maintaining a suitably stocked stores system
Running a Stores System in line with that described and outlined in the
company’s Mafis system
Preparing, breaking down and storing Red Tooling Trays in conjunction with the
Work Centre List.
Ordering certain tools/inserts directly from the recognised suppliers
Placing Acquisition Requests with the Purchasing Manager
Liaising with the Works Manager as necessary to resolve any Matrix Vending
queries
Helping the Pre-Planning Engineer assemble and dismantle the Pre-Planning
Packs
Assembling tools and setting Tool Length Offset for the CNC Machining Centres
Housekeeping.
Sending tools to re-grinding
Drill Sharpening
Helping out in the material stores.
Any other duties deemed to be appropriate by your line manager.
 Use the Mafis Work Centre List to understand the jobs that are entering
the production environment and the ones that have just finished certain
operations.
 Ensure that the RTT’s (Red Tooling Trays) are stored in the racks that are
appropriate to the operation status.
 Ensure that the RTT’s are correctly kitted out as per the RTT contents
lists.
 Ensure, in conjunction with the Pre-Planning Engineer, that the ancillary
pre-planning items (CNC Programs, Planning sheets, etc) are ready, prior
to job launch.
 Ensure all work, tasks, procedures and documentation meet the
requirements of the Mafis management system.
 Identify & Facilitate Process Improvement.

responsibility of a number of people within Merc:
K Marsden, Works Manager – Matrix Vending Machine, New Tooling Ordering,
Non-Matrix Insert Ordering, Tool Re-grinds
B McBlain, CNC Programmer – Specialist Tool Ordering
These responsibilities will be reviewed as to which functions are delegated to the
Tooling Engineer/Storeman.
