LMA REVEALED
2013 COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER
There are 350 municipalities in the state of Louisiana. Twelve of these municipal governments were
announced as winners of the 2013 Community Achievement Awards. This prestigious award, conducted for
the 46th year, goes to municipalities that display outstanding improvements and accomplishments for their
communities.
From all of the entries submitted, the LMA judging committee determines if any are exceptional. Then,
the committee selects the Best of Show over all entries from all over the state. The City of Youngsville was
named the LMA’s “Best of Show in Community Achievement” for its Youngsville Sport Complex. This award
goes to a city that has created a location for the community to gather and to generate future economic
advantages. This community development was an effort made by numerous citizens to fund the 15 million dollar
project that spanned almost 70 acres. The facility is expected to bring in 500,000 visitors in the next year which
will add to the needs for more retail businesses and expansions in the future for the City of Youngsville. This is
the 13th time that LMA has awarded the Best of Show award. Youngsville has now received two of those
thirteen state wide Best of Show recognitions. Youngsville also won Best of Show in 2007.
The end result is enrichment for the citizens of this city that serves as a continued development of
future community needs and opportunities. This achievement has a plan for further improvements to advance
the capacity of this facility for the city and surrounding areas.
The competition is co-sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, Louisiana
Industrial Development Executives Association, and Louisiana Municipal Association.
Entries submitted were judged by a committee of judges from Louisiana Economic Development, the
Capital Region Planning Commission, the Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association, Louisiana
Main Street, and the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.
Dr. Brookie Allphin, communications and governmental consultant, said the awards pay tribute to the
“vision and ingenuity of elected municipal officials and those who assist them in planning and improving citizen
services, community life, and economic conditions.”
The City of Youngsville is an Equal Opportunity Employer
