R&D Student Fellowship R&D Student Fellowships encourage R&D intensive businesses to involve students undertaking Masters or PhD research in their R&D programmes. This new scheme has a strong focus on the student: • the student must gain technical R&D experience that is relevant to their degree, • the business must support the student’s professional development, and • the involvement of the student must support the development of the businesses’ internal capability. Have you identified a student? You must have identified a student and have sign-off from their university before applying for an R&D Student Fellowship. A university’s research office can help you identify a student and an academic supervisor. Then, once the portal is open you can cut and paste material across. In the meantime please share your draft proposal with your Investment Manager or Regional Business Partner. The project plan comprises a series of Objectives (key activities), each with an Objective work plan (description of the work to be done), start and end dates, and a measureable milestone (defining the desired result). If necessary, sub-objectives can be entered. These are termed ‘milestones’. 3. Student’s professional development In this section please explain how your company will support the student fellow’s professional development, preparing them for a future career in R&D. Professional development covers the learning and growth of skills and knowledge, which enable personal development and career advancement. A student’s professional development will comprise a variety of learning opportunities including their formal education and course work, mentoring, coaching, networking, and the chance to participate in a variety of activities across the business.
