The Williams Fellow at Pine Cobble School Background: Pine Cobble School began its Williams Fellow program in the fall of 2010 as a commitment to the development of new teachers. Several of our Williams Fellows have gone on to be full-time teachers at Pine Cobble. Description: The Williams Fellow will be mentored by a veteran faculty member. The Fellow will shadow the veteran teacher while having classes/courses of his/her own to teach. The details of the role will be developed based on the qualifications of the Fellow and the needs of the school in the year of the fellowship. There will be ample amount of time on a weekly basis for the mentor to meet with the Fellow and discuss the week’s classes, events, etc. The Williams Fellow will also be asked to do a variety of “out of classroom” duties from coaching, to helping with drama productions, to coordinating Williams volunteers for the year, among other duties as assigned. These duties, once again, will depend on the needs of the school and the talents of the hired fellow. The Williams Fellow appointment is for one year, with the possibility to petition for a second year of the fellowship. A stipend of $10,000 is provided along with housing on the Pine Cobble campus (with all utilities covered by the school). Selection Process: The current Williams Fellow(s) will be part of the interview and selection process along with the Head of School. Once selected, the Fellow and the mentor will communicate over the summer about the next year’s teaching duties, allowing the Fellow ample time to prepare for the year ahead.
