FAMOUS PEOPLE REPORTS January 2016 Dear Parents, The time has come for the Third Graders to begin preparing for their Famous People Reports. Each child is to choose a famous American, read a biography about that person, and write a report summarizing the person’s life. Your child should select an American who has made a worthwhile contribution to history, medicine, the arts, science, etc. I am encouraging the children to choose someone they are not familiar with so they can learn about someone new. The reports are due on or before Tuesday, Feb. 16. The reports will be shared with classmates and parents on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Your guidance will be greatly appreciated. There are many interesting biographies in our library and the city libraries. If your child has difficulty choosing someone, I can make suggestions. Each report must have: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Good penmanship or your child may type the report An attractive cover (Name and picture or illustration) Pictures or illustrations within the report (At least 2) At least 1 full page (typed) but no more than 2 full pages (hand written) A simple bibliography (Title and author only) Correct conventions (grammar, spelling, etc.) The report must be short enough to be read in 2 minutes or less. On the day of the presentations, each child will “dress up” as their famous person. This is the fun part of the project and the children really “get into” this aspect of it. Please help them remember that the main objective is to read a biography about a famous person and write a report. Each child must show me the biography he/she has chosen to read – it must be age appropriate. Your child will need some assistance with this project. I will be sending home more notes with suggestions of how to put the report together. If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Please complete the attached form and return it to class no later than Monday, Jan. 25. Sincerely, Mrs. G Suggested Project Timeline Mon., Jan. 25 On or before this date, report the name of the person you have chosen. Final approval will not be given until teacher reviews biography.
