Thursday, 19 May 2015
Student Community Center Multi-Purpose Room
12:00 – 2:00 pm
Imagine UC Davis in 50 years as the University of the 21st Century.
Students would receive financial aid from the campus
Decrease the need for one or two jobs
Able to devote more time to their education
Encourage participation in academic and extracurricular activities
Become more involved in the campus
Not be so stressed about their grades
More shared governance on campus and UC
Student input in structure of university governance
Would like more involvement in programs
More student representation on the Board of Regents
Two students represent all the UC students
Students don’t necessarily support the views of Student Regent
Student regents are voted by the Board of Regents
Students need a platform to get engaged with the campus
Orientation would be the first opportunity for students to get to know the campus
All the various clubs and groups should invite participation
Students need to be made aware of the services available to students
Besides extracurricular sports and organizations, there should be awareness of
physical and mental health sources and information
Information should also be provided about Davis and the surrounding region
Important for the students to feel comfortable on campus
Organizations should encourage students to join committees on campus
More student involvement
Academics and faculty are important to the students
Students need to have more access to professors
To keep students aware of class assignments and materials on line
Professors need to encourage good scholarship by students
Students need to know where to look for assistance for academic skills
Classrooms in 50 years
More electronic technology in classroom and personal use
Your phone will be even more multi-dimensional
Lectures may not be done by a professor
Classrooms may not be held in buildings
There will be more interactive discussions on many levels
1
There will be sophisticated electronic technology to bring world events to the
classroom
It will be important to maintain the interaction between professors and students
Research will be incredible with data being gathered from all over the world
Internships in a variety of businesses and locations
Less bureaucracy
There will be an abundance of choices for a course of study
Even the ability to design your own major
Importance of greater communication in building a sense of community in the university
