French Revolution Storybook
What: You and up to 1 other person (TOTAL TWO) will create an illustrated children’s
storybook about the French Revolution:
● Detail the Major events of the revolution
● Describe how it contributed to the rise of democracy
How: Every storybook needs a character in which to convey the events being described. Your
job is to write the storybook using the following criteria:

Simple, clear language so that a 10-year old could read and enjoy it
Visually appealing cover with appropriate title
Brief introduction that describes the conditions in France in the late 1780s that led to
the Revolution (see note sheet and textbook p56-72)
○ The Absolute Monarchy
○ Division of Population: First, second and Third Estates
○ The Age of Enlightenment
○ The American Revolution
○ Financial Difficulties
○ Bad Harvest
● Sections on each of these six events:
1. The meeting of the Estates General, Pg. 73-74
2. The Tennis Court Oath, Pg. 74-75
3. The Storming of the Bastille, Pg 75
4. The March on Versailles and the Great Fear, Pg. 76
5. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and The Citizen, Pg 76-79
6. The Demise of Revolutionary Leaders and the End to the Monarchy, Pg. 80-83
7. The Reign of Terror, Pg. 84-85
Include:
● A minimum of a 2 outside sources (Internet sources or books) in which you will include
in a bibliography at the end of your story. NO WIKIPEDIA. NO PLAGIARIZING.
● Each section must contain
○ An illustration of the event (hand drawn)
○ Thought or voice bubbles coming from characters in the illustration
○ a summary within your storyline describing how the event is unfolding and how it
is related to the French Revolution
○ A brief conclusion at the end of your story that explains how the events of the
Revolution contributed to the growth of democracy
○ Use of colour, page numbers, layout, additional visuals or graphics.
*Note* A rough copy will be due April 8, 2014. Without one, the assignment will not be
considered complete.
