Interactive Digital Publishing for iPad and Tablets
Piedmont is a prototype for an interactive magazine designed for the iPad that
focuses on the people, places and passions of North Carolina's Piedmont region.
I designed, and collected all the content for the magazine, which included
interviewing subjects, taking photos and video and utilizing Adobe InDesign to
design interactive slide shows and other elements.

Interactive Project for the Public Good (Lead Photographer)
While a grad student at Elon, I was part of a team effort to create an interactive
website for our client--the Térraba, an indigenous tribe in Costa Rica in danger of
losing the land they have been stewarding for the past 500 years. The site was
featured in several national and international publications, including National
Public Radio. I served as the Photography Lead on this project and assisted with
writing the web content.
2009-2012: Office Manager, The Scrap Exchange
The Scrap Exchange is a nonprofit creative reuse center in Durham, North
Carolina whose mission is to promote creativity, environmental awareness, and
community through reuse. Since 1991, they have been collecting materials from
local businesses and residents and distributing these reclaimed materials
through their retail store, community events, parties and workshops.
Responsibilities: Manage Friends membership program, Maintaining donor
database, create donor acknowledgements, customer and business
correspondence, light bookkeeping, financial status reports, office organization,
filing, purchase supplies, answer phones and emails, event planning, marketing
assistance, fundraising, grant writing.
2007-2009: Business Manager, The Old-Time Herald magazine
The Old-Time Herald celebrates the love of old-time music. The publication casts
a wide net, highlighting the Southeastern tradition while opening its pages to
kindred and comparable traditions and new directions.
Responsibilities: Subscription management, advertising sales, database
management, invoicing, shipping, basic bookkeeping, customer service,
fundraising, event planning, and the day-to-day operations of running a small
non-profit magazine.
2006-2009: Office Manager, Carolina Wren Press
Carolina Wren Press is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to publish
quality writing, especially by writers historically neglected by mainstream
publishing, and to develop diverse and vital audiences through publishing,
outreach, and educational programs.
Responsibilities: sales, shipping, database management, basic bookkeeping,
customer service, fundraising, event planning, assisting with grant writing, and
the day-to-day operations of running a small non-profit press.
AWARDS/HONORS
2013: “I Write” Campaign
I was nominated by Elon faculty as an outstanding writer to participate in Elon’s “I
Write” campaign for Elon’s Writing Excellence Initiative—a five-year plan
designed to significantly enhance the writing of Elon students.
2014: Hormel Video Contest Award Winner
Hormel’s “Real Recipes, Real Life” video contest. Placed 8th out of 100 entrants.
