CMAC News & Guests: A. “Our Community Salutes” – Chairman Larry Smith reported that the event was a huge success. This event will play a major role for CMAC to lead and participate in. A big thank you was given to Elizabeth Johnston for all her help. B. PT-658 Boat Shelter Robbery – Bob Day reported that over $6,000 worth of tools were robbed from the boat’s shelter on Swan Island sometime April 28th or 29th. They were very organized and took tools that could be sold quickly. The incident is being investigated by the Portland Police. If you have the ability to donate tools or money contact Bob Alton at 503-209-8203. *During the meeting $423 was collected. C. Flagpole – Bob Cromwell and Patrick Keller gave a review. The Flagpole will be on the site of the Army Chapel built in 1904 and removed in 1996. On May 7 th concrete will be poured and a granite Plaque put in place. The Plaque will read “Donated by Columbia Credit Union. The Flagpole will be dedicated on Memorial Day. D. Gold Star Scholarship Program – Captain Richard Ingleby is still looking for more players to play in the Golf Tournament schedule for June 28th at the Tri Mountain Golf Course. See CMAC Newsletter for more information. 4. Memorial Day Ceremony – May 27th, 11:00AM, Memorial Grounds. Reception 10:00AM10:45AM in the Artillery Barracks (Invitation Only – CMAC Members are welcome!). A. Directors Assignments: 1. Port-a-potties (1 handicap and 1 regular) – Jim Czmowski They will be there May 23rd and returned May 29th. Jim will be working with Bob Cromwell as to the locations of them. Seating (800 chairs) – Roy Billings Chairs have been ordered. The Young Marines, Boy Scouts, and hopefully the Sea Scouts will help set up and take down the chairs. Parking – Civil Air Patrol Thomas Dombeck announced that the Civil Air Patrol will do the parking. There will be parking sites for volunteers and public. Security – John Hopkins (CVI) Ready! Sound System – Bo Russel Ready! Media – Madie Kozacek Photography –Jim Moody and Ralph Walker Ready! Invitations/Flyers/Programs – Samantha Whitley Flyers were passed out at the meeting. Reception/Indoor – Joyce Slemp (Emblem Club), VA Hospital, and Matti Neal (Parenting w/ Parents) Saturday will be available to set up the decorations and the Gold Star Banners in the room. Reception/Outside – Anne McEnerny-Ogle Organizations participating: MOAA, Kamlu, Red Cross, Neighborhood Assoc., Boy and Girl Scouts, Lions Club, Operation Military Kids. Reception will be on the South side of the buildings this year. Foster Farms will be donating 1,000 hot dogs. Checking into acquiring the buns. POW/MIA Chair & Table – Jack Giesen and Jeff Davis Ready! Artillery Firing – Don Olson announced that they will be there with the Howitzers. Will fire 5 rounds for each Branch of Service and 1 round for all Veterans. Need to have secure area for safety reasons. Honor Guard/Rifle Firing – John Hopkins 6th Battalion Marine Corp Buffalo Soldiers – Bill Morehouse Cemetery Flags – Richard Alvarez reported that the flags will be placed at the Fort Cemetery (across from the VA Medical Center on Fourth Plain Blvd.) May 23 rd at 4:00PM and removed May 28th. Military Vehicles – Jack Giesen announced that he will have vehicles there for the ceremony. Clean-up –Young Marines and all volunteers Permit – Dan Tarbell Flag Stands – Jim Czmowski Stands are about 2/3rds done. 39. State Flags set-up/take-down –Peggy Gresham and Young Marines Peggy will organize in picking up the flags and returning them to the Armed Forced Reserve Center. They should be on site by 9:00 AM. 40. Waste Connections – Don Wilson A dumpster will be paced on site. Venture Scout Troop #609 will be checking containers. 5. Meeting closed.
