Miss Barr’s Classroom Rules for Lang. Arts and Math updated 8-27-14 I believe that the best learning environment is one that works to support good study habits, social skills, and work habits. My classroom reinforces these habits through the use of an action/consequence system that holds students responsible for their choices. At the same time, the students learn a valuable life skill that will be useful in the future. The students have the opportunity to earn classroom money. Students can spend their money when the classroom store is open or save it to purchase a larger item at a later time. STUDENTS EARN OR LOSE MONEY FROM THEIR WALLET AS NOTED: EARNINGS PENALTIES + $1.00 homework on time - $1.00 for each √ mark + $1.00 individual goals met - $1.00 missing homework + $1.00 for no √ marks - $1.00 notes in classroom + $ ??? for BONUS days - $1.00 missing supplies CHECKMARKS ARE RECEIVED FOR BREAKING CLASSROOM OR SCHOOL RULES. EACH STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR READING THE STUDENT HANDBOOK THOROUGHLY. CHECKMARKS IN THE CLASSROOM ARE ADDED UP EACH DAY. EACH ADDITIONAL CHECKMARK ADDS UP TO MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCE. GIMME 5 CHARACTER TRAITS 1) Respectful 2) Responsible 3) Caring 4) Safe 5) Ready To Learn ADDITIONAL RULES AND PROCEDURES All missing homework must be handed in by the end of the day (unless extended time is designated on IEP). We will use school time, first, to try and get unfinished homework completed during the school day during the time the student has lost for recess. Before or after school time will be only used if an excessive amount of work is missing. For before or after school homework time, a notice will come home with the student listing available times to work on any missing homework or absence work. Written parent permission (email or writen note) or permission via phone call must be obtained in order for the student to stay before or after school to complete missing work. Gum chewing is not allowed in the classroom. Any student caught chewing gum will receive a √ mark for each time caught. Writing and receiving personal notes during class time is unacceptable. Students found reading or writing notes in the classroom will receive a √ mark. page 3 Free time is issued to a student that completes classwork before the class period has ended. The quality of the work must be up to the expected level determined by the teacher. Free time cannot be used if a student has any missing homework or has more than one checkmark that day. If the homework is finished and turned in before the end of the period, free time can be used. Free time is to be used in a part of the room away from where other students are working. Free time can be taken away if it is not used properly. Students who have lost free time for the day are expected to pull out other work or read a book when their classwork is done. Be sure to go over the student handbook for Firelands Elementary. In depth details about other school rules and procedures are found in the student handbook. If a student is able to follow all of the school and classroom rules on a regular basis, it will lead to a positive and productive school year.
