ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FORM Job title: Development Officer Salary Plan/Salary Grade: PAE-3DV Position #: 00000337 SUMMARY In one or two sentences, state the general purpose of this position: The Development Officer is responsible for raising philanthropic support from donors, volunteers, alumni, and other close constituents. They will cultivate and steward donors, work on developing and submitting proposals to donors for gifts up to $50,000. They will also coordinate all aspects of the Center’s annual fund, the alumni association and implement, execute and support activities helping to establish a strong and comprehensive constituency and donor base for the Center. They will report to the Director of Fundraising and Institutional Advancement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Make a list of all tasks that are essential to the position with or without reasonable accommodation: Task description Annual Fund: Work with Associate Director of Development on overall strategy of annual fund. Responsible for soliciting all constituents, both current donors and non-donors, of the Center through direct mail, telefund, and stewardship letters. Implement all details of the annual fund program including managing the process of developing letters (may include writing of the actual letter), coordinating volunteers, conducting appropriate level testing, and compiling analytical reports. Manage all aspects of the Center’s annual giving club, Professional Associates, including acquiring new donors, renewing and upgrading current donors, overseeing annual PA breakfast, manage/update communication listserve and stewarding gifts, through mechanisms such as phone calls, visits, and letters. Following donor cultivation receptions, make substantive followup contacts to secure Professional Associate-level gifts from attendees Fundraising and Donor Development Secure grants and gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations Working with the Director of Development and Communications, develop and submit proposals, and cultivate and steward donors for gifts up to $50,000. Utilizing the Annual Fund and Professional Associates gift club, identify prospective major gift donors for all areas of the Center. Work with the Associate Director to implement stewardship % of time spent per year 45 45 programs for Corporate Donors, such as coordinating with Academic Programs Department student recruitment days. Serve as Center representative for the Spirit of Philanthropy annual awards. Alumni Association Manage all aspects of the Center on Philanthropy Alumni Association. Serve as the lead Center liaison for this volunteer board. Coordinate monthly meetings, provide assistance with event planning, manage/update communication listserv, manage Alumni website, ensure compliance with bi-laws and IUAA policies, recruit new board members, and compile newsletter information for quarterly e-Perspectives newsletter Perform other duties as assigned pursuant to implementing an active and effective Constituency Relations program. 5 5 Minimum Education and Experience required: Bachelor’s degree in an area of study relevant to philanthropy and nonprofit management and three years of relevant experience. Preference for advanced degree in philanthropy or nonprofit management. Experience with annual fund activities. Knowledge/skills/abilities required: Project management; ability to implement details; knowledge/interest in annual fund as a fundraising tool; ability to interact with all levels of donors; flexible writing skills- creative and technical; work independently and as part of a team; manage multiple projects and deadlines; ability to deal with ambiguity; supervision; oral and written interpersonal communication skills; basic computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, database, time management, and task prioritization.
