National Art School Selection Documentation Philanthropy Manager March 2015 National Art School The National Art School (NAS) is Australia’s longest standing visual arts school, acknowledged nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence for the provision of higher education, artistic practice and scholarship. NAS is a registered Higher Education Provider housed in the historic walls of the old Darlinghurst Gaol in Sydney’s premier Arts precinct. This unique heritage campus provides spacious studio accommodation with dedicated teaching and workshop facilities; project and exhibition spaces including the NAS Gallery; specialised fine art library & learning resources; NAS Artist in Residence program; and Study Centre for Drawing. The School currently offers a range of accredited degree courses that embody the School’s education emphasis of studio-based learning supported by core study in the subjects of Drawing and Art History & Theory. These degree programs include the Bachelor of Fine Art, Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) and Master of Fine Art (Research) with studio majors offered in the disciplines of Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture. Currently there are up to 400 full time equivalent student enrolments in NAS degree programs. The school also conducts an extensive range of Short Course programs and specialist programs for High School students with over 1200 enrolments per year. In addition to an actively practicing establishment staff team, The National Art School employs over 80 practicing artists as visiting lecturers throughout its educational programs. The National Art School boasts an alumni that includes acclaimed Australian artists many of whom are key figures in the history of Australian art and contemporary art practice. Page 2 of 7 Position Details TITLE: Philanthropy Manager BRIEF ROLE STATEMENT: The Philanthropy Manager is responsible for raising funds for the National Art School by developing and implementing programs that identify, cultivate, inform and involve existing and potential donors. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reporting to the CEO/Director Direct reports – Development and Alumni Coordinator POSITION TYPE: General, Full Time REMUNERATION: Higher Education Worker Level 7 with a salary range of $91,875 - $100,518 (inclusive of annual leave loading and 9.5% employer’s superannuation contribution). Page 3 of 7 Statement of Duties Assist in the planning, development and implementation of the fundraising strategy and programs. Manage and develop a portfolio of National Art School major donors and prospects, including researching and recruiting donors and engaging alumni. Coordinate and manage the annual giving program. Work with the Director and Chief Executive to develop plans for identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gifts from individual donors and foundations and trusts. Prepare and present strategy and briefing documents and compelling funding proposals for major donors, cultivate and solicit major gifts from individual donors and foundations and trusts, and deliver follow up activities. Ensure effective acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship of current donors to maintain and develop these relationships for further support. Maintain the donor database with accurate and up-to-date information on prospect and donor activity and interests. Assist with the development of an Alumni Relations program and oversee the implementation by the Development/ Alumni Coordinator. Coordinate and oversee appropriate events and functions for prospects and donors. Perform other related duties as required. Page 4 of 7 Selection Criteria Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field or equivalent relevant experience. Demonstrated experience in fundraising, preferably in an arts or educational environment. Experience of major giving techniques desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to create compelling grant submissions, donor solicitations, thank you letters and newsletter copy. Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to mix and network at the highest levels. Highly developed administrative skills, including data management, with good attention to detail. Ability to work efficiently under own initiative as well as being a cooperative team player. Be perceptive and discreet. Knowledge and understanding of EEO, Ethical Practice and WH&S Knowledge and experience of the Visual Arts and Education sectors is highly regarded.
