I.
PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting directly to the Sr. Director, manages all aspects of fundraising
for Mary Immaculate Hospital and the Orthopedic clinical service line,
including strategic planning, developing relationships with CEO,
physicians, nursing staff, patients, and board development. Manages an
active portfolio of individual major and planned gift prospects and works to
achieve Hospital and Foundation goals of philanthropic support.

Work requires a Master’s Degree in liberal arts, public relations,
marketing, communications, business, or a related discipline.
Appropriate development experience closing major gifts may
substitute for Master’s degree.
Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, presentation, and
influencing skills are required.
Demonstrated success in personally cultivating, soliciting,
stewarding, and closing major and defined fund gifts.
Work requires five to seven years of experience in fundraising with a
successful track record of managing relationships with the capacity to
give gifts in access of $50k.
Demonstrated ability to effectively represent the Foundation to
external audiences through the use of strong verbal and written
communication and presentation skills.
Ability to set and manage multiple priorities necessary.
Experience in healthcare philanthropy would be a plus, but not
required.
Designation as a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or Fellow
AHP (Association for Healthcare Philanthropy) helpful, but not
required.
Computer and software experience to include, but not limited to
Microsoft Office and Raisers’ Edge.
III.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Independently identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major and
planned gift prospects, specifically for donors to Mary Immaculate Hospital
and for BSHR Orthopedic initiatives. This includes identifying, cultivating, and
managing an active portfolio of up to 150 donors and prospective donors who
have the highest capacity to give.
2. Builds relationships with hospital administration, nursing leadership, and
physicians to engage them to refer grateful patients and families to
development.
3. Serves on Executive Management Team for Mary Immaculate Hospital.
4. Reinvigorate Mary Immaculate Foundation, including recruiting Board
members in collaboration with Foundation Board nominating committee,
representing MIH Foundation in Newport News community activities, and
participating in MIH community events.
5. Provide development staff support to the Board of Directors for Mary
Immaculate Hospital.
6. Prepare and deliver philanthropy reports to the MIH System Boards, in
collaboration with Sr. Director and CEO.
7.
Directs the development of a communications strategy for assigned
donors, and provides donors with regular updates on how their funds are
being utilized and their impact on the institution, with the intent of encouraging
continued donor support.

Participates in regular BSV and BSHR development meetings, training
sessions, and collaborative events.
IV.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Works and travels as necessary to meet established Foundation initiative
goals and objectives.

Work requires local travel, as necessary, to accomplish principal
duties.
