2015 HOMECOMING STEERING COMMITTEE APPLICATION INFORMATION “AMERICA’S GREATEST HOMECOMING CELEBRATION” Please turn in completed applications to the 1st floor receptionist desk of the Alumni Center no later than Friday, February 13th by 4:30 p.m. Absolutely no late applications will be accepted!! All pages of each application must be typed. Applications that are not typed will not be considered. Turn applications in at the Alumni Center. Applications that are submitted elsewhere will not be considered. What is the Alumni Association Homecoming Steering Committee? This committee of 45-55 volunteer students is responsible for planning and supervising the activities associated with OSU’s Homecoming Celebration. Students are chosen based on their commitment and desire to work toward the betterment and continuation of this, the greatest OSU Tradition. Alumni Association Homecoming Steering Committee responsibilities: Plan and execute Homecoming activities that are presented by the OSU Alumni Association. Walkaround, the “Sea of Orange” Parade, Harvest Carnival, and Spirit Rally are just a few of the activities that make up OSU’s greatest tradition. Facilitate communication for the OSU Campus and Stillwater Community regarding Homecoming activities. Homecoming is a time when the campus, community and alumni come together to celebrate the traditions of this great University. Who is Eligible and How Do I Apply? Any full-time student, graduate or undergraduate, who is not a Greek or Residential Life Homecoming Director, is eligible to apply. All applicants chosen for Homecoming Steering membership will be required to join Student Alumni Association (Applications are available at the ConocoPhilips OSU Alumni Center reception desk. Cost is $20 to join.), or you can sign up for a Life Membership on your SIS enrollment page. Please feel free to e-mail the address below with questions. Persons selected for the steering committee will be required to attend twice a month steering meetings in the spring and weekly steering meetings in the fall. Steering meetings are held every other Tuesday in the spring at 8 p.m. and will be held every Tuesday in the fall at 8 p.m. Generally it will be necessary for steering members to spend some time outside of meetings to complete various tasks. Required Spring Steering meetings are scheduled for February 24th, March 10th, March 24th, April 7th, and April 21st at 8 p.m. Meetings are every Tuesday during the fall semester at 8 p.m. Homecoming at OSU is America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration, and the steering committee is the driving force to its success. Selection to the steering committee will require active participation, enthusiasm, and a willingness to devote the time necessary to complete tasks and assignments. Contact local restaurants and get them to take part in Eat for Pete. House Dec/Walkaround-Work with the Greek houses on the House Decorations as well as oversee the process the week of more strenuously. Work with the city and physical plant on street closing and also coordinate the vendors for the night of Walkaround. Public Outreach- Media relations (writing press releases)(working with radio, TV and newspaper for interviews); work closely with the Alumni Communications Director and develop a comprehensive HC presentation. Plan, coordinate, gather materials for & assist with alumni registration on Fri. & Sat. of Homecoming Week; plan fun activities for children; print and distribute homecoming packets to Stillwater area hotels; formulate other activities to encourage alumni involvement. Coordinate/ advertise events. Design all fliers and graphic print pieces to promote homecoming activities. Promotional Design- Completely responsible for writing, designing and creating the commemorative homecoming program/magazine. Come up with the concept for the t shirt design and work with the University Store to market the sales of the shirt and work with Eskimo Joes on Joes Cup design. VIP- Oversee the Homecoming Royalty selection; coronation and Homecoming royalty appearances. Prepare special gifts for VIP judges; plan special reunions and the Grand Marshal reception; coordinate Thursday night food delivery. Coordinate tours and hospitality room for 50 year reunion group. Parade-Plan and organize the parade by working with alumni staff and city officials (includes soliciting entries and being present the morning of parade.) Contact & secure high school bands for the parade as well as oversee them the morning of, work closely with OSU band office. Athletic Pride-Plan, coordinates, and develops creative activities for the Spirit Rally! Supervise Football Frenzy, Flag Football competition. Campus Life-Encourage participation and serve as a liaison from Res Life groups in Homecoming activities; plan and coordinate Res Life Homecoming Bash; oversee Orange Reflection lighting contest. Encourage participation and serve as a liaison from Student Organizations in Homecoming activities. Encourage participation in Most Spirited College Competition. University Spirit -Promote overall university spirit and participation; coordinate Hester Street painting, and spirit activities. Supervise and coordinate the sign competition, decorate theta pond for “Orange Reflection at the Pond,” and promote and expand “Orange Glow”, which encourages businesses to decorate orange.
