Good Afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Broughton High School with some important announcements for the upcoming week. A copy of these announcements will be posted on our school website and e-mailed to the Broughton email group. “Around the World” Homecoming activities begin Monday, October 19th! I know the students are excited about the Spirit Days, Canned Food Drive, Skits, Floats, Pep Rally, Parade, and our Homecoming Game. I wish each Class well in the Homecoming competitions! I especially want to encourage students to participate in our Canned Food and Money collections during CAPS Class, where all proceeds go to help Stop Hunger locally by benefitting the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Please remember that the festivities kick-off with Patriotic Day on Monday. Tourist Tuesday will also feature the CAP 8 Championships for our Cross Country teams and our Jazz Fusion Concert, “What a Wonderful World” that begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Diane Payne Auditorium. Admission is $5.00 and we will also be accepting donations for our Food Pantry. Wednesday is Pink Day to support Breast Cancer awareness. Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. on the Football Field we will also host our Powder Puff football game. Admission is $5.00 and all of the money goes to charity—half to our Food Drive and half to Breast Cancer research. Thursday is Jersey Thursday and the week ends with our Purple and Gold Day on Friday. On Friday, we will hold a Pep Rally for our students in Holliday Gym, hold our Homecoming Parade beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the back parking lot, enjoy our Homecoming BBQ prior to the football game from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in front of Holliday Gym, have our Hall of Fame Inductions for Sandy Roberts and Dr. Maurice Smith beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the front lobby of Holliday Gym, and end the festivities with our Homecoming Football game versus Wakefield High School beginning at 7:00 p.m. I am excited for all of the Broughton Homecoming experiences, and I hope your student is fired up as well! Please remember that the deadline for receiving approval to volunteer at Broughton and all Wake County Public School System schools is fast approaching. In order to continue as an approved volunteer for the 2015 – 2016 school year individuals must re-activate no later than October 30th. Thank you for taking care of this requirement so that you can support our students and school. Please remember that it is still not too late to join the PTSA! The PTSA is an amazing support to the teaching and learning at Broughton High School and I ask that you please join if you have not already. Thank you very much to those families that have already joined! Just a reminder to continue to check the Broughton Athletics webpage for game times of our Fall sports as we move into the playoff and state championship season. I am proud of the way our student athletes have represented Broughton and look forward to watching their post-season accomplishments. Please also remember that our Winter Sports try-outs will be starting soon. Please be sure that if your student is interested in playing he/she has his/her physical and all forms completed and knows the dates, times, and locations of tryouts. Those are all of the announcements for this week. As always, I ask that you please continue to check the Broughton website for general information and to read the DAB that is posted each day to our website to help you stay informed. I hope each of you has a wonderful weekend! Go CAPS and please take care.
