Good Afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Broughton High School with some important announcements for the upcoming week. A copy of these announcements will be posted on our school website and e-mailed to the Broughton email group. Our Fall Play, Alice in Wonderland, will run again tonight, Friday, October 9th and tomorrow night, Saturday, October 10th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Diane Payne Auditorium. Ticket prices are $5.00. I saw the performance last night and our students were outstanding! Please support our incredible students and see a wonderful production! Our Student Government is changing things up tonight at our Varsity football game. The student section is moving down to be located next to our Marching Band. It is also Senior Night for our Band students and we are having a “Black Out” so be sure to come wearing black. Thank you for helping us build community and spirit and for your support of our awesome students! On the morning of Wednesday, October 14th, all Tenth Grade students and many Eleventh Grade students will take the PSAT at Broughton. The PSAT provides practice for the SAT and assesses students’ progress toward college readiness. The PSAT is made up of 5 tests: 2 reading, 2 mathematics, and 1 writing test. The different tests are designed to measure students’ critical reading, mathematical problem solving, and writing skills. Broughton’s administration of the PSAT will last approximately three hours. Students will return to their regular daily schedule when finished. The PTSA is holding their next meeting on Tuesday, October 13th beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Broughton Media Center. All families are invited to attend this meeting. Please remember that it is still not too late to join the PTSA! The PTSA is an amazing support to the teaching and learning at Broughton High School and I ask that you please join if you have not already. Thank you very much to those families that have already joined! Broughton High School will be administering the ASVAB Career Exploration Program assessment the morning of Friday, October 16th. Students taking this assessment have been provided detailed instructions on the administration of this test. Friday, October 16th is an Early Release Day. Students will be released at 11:35 a.m. and buses will begin running at 11:50 a.m. The Class of 2016 needs all Seniors to turn in the Senior Dues form and pay Senior dues of $40.00. The deadline for submitting Senior Dues is next Friday, October 16th. Information on the Senior Dues form is also used to order senior T-shirts, determine Cap and Gown size, and print the Senior’s full name for their Diploma—so it is critical we get this information turned in. These forms can be found on the Broughton website, under the Parents/Forms tab. Please be sure to take care of this obligation and turn in the form by next Friday so the correct size for your Cap, Gown and Senior T-shirt can be ordered! The form and money can be turned in to Ms. Tollison in Student Services. Checks should be made payable to BHS Class of 2016 with the student’s name on the memo line. A reminder to our students who are interested in playing a Winter Sport—students must get an athletic wristband to show proof of a current physical on file prior to trying-out for any sport. Wristbands can be picked-up on Tuesday, October 27th and Wednesday, October 28th in the front lobby of Holliday Gym during both lunches and after school until 3:00 p.m. Please be sure to bring a copy of last year’s (2nd Semester) Report Card with you. If you have any questions please ask Coach Cicco or visit the Broughton Sports Medicine Twitter page @NBSportsMed. Help support the Freshman Class by purchasing Poinsettias for the holidays. Orders may be placed online with a credit card or with a form and check made out to the Class of 2019. Order forms can be found on the Broughton website under PTSA. The order deadline is October 27th and pick up day is Tuesday, December 1st from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on the front lawn. Support the Junior Class of 2017 and enjoy a delicious Barbeque Dinner catered by White Swan Barbeque before the Homecoming Game! Tickets are $10.00 and the deadline to order is by Friday, October 16 th. Order forms can be printed from the Broughton website under the Parents/Forms tabs. Dinner will be served from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23rd in front of Holliday Gym. The BBQ is on rain or shine! Our Fall athletic season is ending in the coming weeks and Conference Tournaments and State Playoffs will begin. Please check the Broughton Athletic website for game dates and times and come out and support our Student Athletes for their last remaining games, Senior nights, and playoff competition! Those are all of the announcements for this week. As always, I ask that you please continue to check the Broughton website for general information and to read the DAB that is posted each day to our website to help you stay informed. I hope each of you has a wonderful weekend! Go CAPS and please take care.
