DRAFT Proposal: Non Credit --Continuing Education Department Background: Title 5 permits Community Colleges to offer classes in four types of credit modes.[see chart]. NON-CREDIT is one of those modes – and is restricted to nine specific areas: Parenting, Elementary & Secondary Basic Skills, English as a Second Language [ESL], Immigrants, Disabled, Short Term Vocational, Older Adults, Home Economics and Health & Safety. FTES for these courses is about 50% less than Degree Credit courses, and is also subject to a cap that is independent of our Credit FTES cap. Proposal : GWC create a new Department entitled Continuing Education - Not-for-Credit College Program – Courses with an 800 number - These courses will be utilized for courses which have a significant number of auditors – most of whom have expended their eligibility to enroll in credit bearing sections. Schedule Description of Continuing Education Program. (Draft Language) The courses listed in this program are taught at a college level; however, students who enroll, with the permission of the Instructor, will not be evaluated for grading purposes. There is no transcript entry or college credit awarded for participation in these courses. This noncredit option is available for only a selected number of courses which have been pre- approved by the college curriculum committee as not-for- credit offerings. These courses are offered at the same time and in the same room with students enrolled in a credit bearing class. Opportunities for enrollment are determined, on a space available basis, after credit enrollments have been met. All college rules related to student conduct must be satisfied by individuals enrolled in these course. College enrollment fees are waived; however, other appropriate college and class fees are the responsibility of each enrollee. Enrollment Procedures: Students should attend the first class meeting to obtain instructor permission cards to complete the enrollment procedure.. Enrollment priority is given to those students enrolling in the college credit class which is paired to each not-for-credit course. Since these classes are offered as a space available option – the only way to ensure enrollment is to enroll in the credit course. If you are eligible to enroll in the credit course it is strongly recommended that you do so. These programs are subject to funding limitations.
