Bland Liberty Memorial Central Middle School Geometry Syllabus Graded Assignments: Home Practice Quizzes Tests Classwork/Notebook Activities/Projects 10% 25% 35% 15% 15% Home Practice is designed to allow students time to practice mathematics. Home Practice may be assigned daily, Monday through Friday, and is scaled so that it should not take your child more than thirty minutes to complete. Each home practice assignment is worth 5 points. In order to receive full credit on your home practice, you must attempt every problem, show your work, and have it completed on time. Home practice is graded strictly on effort; therefore, not turning in an assignment is very detrimental for your child’s average. The amount of days to complete make-up assignments will be determined by the number of days absent. Quizzes usually cover one or two sections of each objective. Various quizzes will be announced and some will not. Tests are given at the completion of each objective. Tests are usually a combination of multiple choice and free response questions. Students will be given advance notice on test dates. Semester Final: A cumulative final exam will be given at the end of the semester. Projects will be assigned quarterly. Some projects will be completed in class, while others will be completed at home. Each project will be discussed in class, as well as examples shown of completed projects. Students will be given a rubric for grading. Students will be responsible for maintaining a Math Notebook that will contain all home practice, class notes and warm-ups. The notebook will be evaluated at regular intervals. The grade is based on a 10-point scale. Points will be determined by the neatness of the notebook, content, and organization. All papers need to have the following heading: name (first and last), date, hour, and course name. Failing to master essential core content is not an option. Students who do not demonstrate their ability to master essential concepts through successful completion of class work and unit assessments with a minimum score of 65% will be re-taught the specific material. Periodically I will provide re-teaching activities, centers, and stations in the classroom to remediate the specific area of opportunity. If the student continues to lack mastery of the essential concepts, he/she will be assigned to a corrective instruction group where they will meet in an assigned classroom with our district specialist once or twice a week to be re-taught the specific material. Extra Help: I can be available after school Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday until 4pm. Homework Zone is also available. Communication: Parental involvement has proven to be important when it comes to student academic success. Please be sure that I have your current contact information for you on file. Parents are encouraged to communicate with me through my e-mail address. Also, parents may call the school, and the office will notify me of your call. Please remember that I cannot leave the classroom to take your call. However, I will be happy to call you as soon as I am available. I appreciate and thank you for your involvement this school year.
