Attendance You are enrolled in a professional programme. As you enter a profession you also commit to a set of professional and ethical obligations. On completion of your programme the College is required to attest to the New Zealand Teachers Council your fitness to be a teacher. Fitness to teach is evidenced by: • Professional behaviour • Commitment to being fully prepared for practica • Engagement with colleagues • Reliability and trustworthiness Your on-campus classes are structured to prepare you for your practicum experiences out in schools. These classes are an important and integral part of preparing you for the practica and your future teaching profession. In our experience, students who miss lectures and/or workshops are often inadequately prepared for their practicums. We reserve the right to not allocate you a place in practicum where we determine that you are not sufficiently prepared. This could result in failure of the entire professional studies paper for that year. Should exceptional circumstances arise regarding attendance, students need to contact College Reception on 479 4914 or uoce-reception@otago.ac.nz as soon as possible. AND for Professional Practice papers also include the following (or delete): 3 Practicum Completion of all practica is a requirement for provisional registration as a teacher. Therefore you must meet the full requirements in terms of hours in the class and in school. Of course unexpected events can occur. If you are unable to go to your practicum school, you need to communicate with your school and the College of Education. • Phone your Associate Teacher/school before 8:30 am. • Phone or email the Practicum Administrator • ECE Gail Morris 479 4942 ecepracadmin@otago.ac.nz Primary Karla Sellwood 479 4225 primarypracadmin@otago.ac.nz Secondary Gail Morris 479 4942 secondarypracadmin@otago.ac.nz Southland Campus Reception 03 211 6724 sheryl.walker@otago.ac.nz If you are due to be visited by your Visiting Lecturer, you must also contact that person. In the case of illness, you may be asked to provide a medical certificate. Additional Time Commitments Additional Course Costs Risk Risk is inherent in all outdoor activities. Specific risks are disclosed to students throughout the course and safety management procedures carried out. Participation in these activities follows the philosophy of challenge of choice, not compulsion. Students are required to complete an Acknowledgement of Risks agreement prior to the beginning of the course. Blackboard This course is on Blackboard. It is also useful should you wish to apply for crosscredit or recognition of prior learning (RPL) at a future time.
