Virtual Enzyme Lab
Go to http://bioweb.wku.edu/courses/Biol120/Web/enzyme2.asp
You can use http://bioweb.wku.edu/courses/Biol114/enzyme/enzyme1.asp
for your background information section.
Following the instructions and answer the questions as you go. You will want
to copy down the procedure as you go as well since you will need this
information to write your lab report.
1). What does H2O2 represent?
2). Which tube represents the control?
3). What does the catalase represent?
4). What reaction has occurred?
5). What is the purpose of the KMnO4?
Make sure you record your results.
Go to http://www.coolschool.ca/lor/BI12/unit7/U07L04.htm
Using the attached sheet, record your results.
Writing the report:
1). Background information – should include at least one typewritten page (no
more than 12 point font) of enzyme action, the purpose of the materials you
used in the original lab, signs that enzyme action is taking place, etc. You
need to make sure that somebody who knows nothing about enzymes can use
your background information as a good source of information.
2) Objective – what was the purpose of this lab? This should be a complete
sentence and written in the following manner:
Objective: To determine the effects of enzymes on specific substrates (do
not use this one, come up with your own!!)
3). Hypothesis – before starting the lab you need to make a hypothesis about
what you think is going to happen (remember – no “I” statements)
4). Materials – pay attention to what you used on the first part of the virtual
lab – these materials should be included in this list.
5). Data/results – this should be done in a table form (data) and a bar graph
as well as a brief summary of what occurred during the lab.
6). Conclusion – summarize what was stated in the background information
and how it pertains to your results. Restate your hypothesis and state
whether or not it was correct.
