The University of Aberdeen Alumni Discount Scheme - Guidelines
The University of Aberdeen is very pleased to offer a 20% discount in postgraduate tuition fees for all
alumni who have successfully completed a degree from the University of Aberdeen. The Alumni
Discount Scheme applies to both home and overseas students, and applies to the self-funding
element of the postgraduate tuition fee. This is the element of tuition fee which you are personally
paying yourself and does not cover the element of tuition fee which is covered by a scholarship,
funding body, your employer, a company, or any another source of external funding. The Alumni
Discount applies only to the tuition fee element and does not apply to any additional costs such as
additional programme costs or research costs. If you are the recipient of a scholarship from the
College of Arts and Social Sciences then you do not qualify for the Alumni Discount Scheme. Please
note that College scholarships are always of greater value than the amount of discount provided
under the Alumni Discount Scheme.
To be eligible for this discount in 2013/2014 students must have successfully completed a degree
from the University of Aberdeen by September 2013. Students must be registered for either a taught
Masters degree or a supervised research degree starting in the 2013/14 academic year. A list of
eligible postgraduate programmes covered under this scheme is available below. A small number of
postgraduate programmes as detailed below are not eligible.
The discount is for new students in 2013/14 and cannot be applied for retrospectively. The
discount applies to year one only of a full-time degree. It does not apply to further years of a
full-time degree. The discount applies to year one and two only of a part-time degree. It does
not apply to further years of a part-time degree.

The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The degree of Doctor of Engineering (EngD)
The degree of Doctor of Education (EdD)
The degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
The degree of Master of Research (MRes)
The degree of Master of Letters (MLitt)
The degree of Master of Land Economy (MLE)
The degree of Master of Science (MSc) [excluding MSc Oil and Gas Structural Engineering,
MSc Project Management, MSc Software Project Management, MSc in Information
Technology by distance learning, and MSc in Subsea Engineering by distance learning]
The degree of Master of Business Administration, and associated pathways
The degree of Master of Theology (MTh)
The degree of Master of Laws (LLM)
The degree of Master of Medical Science (MmedSci).
Any research Masters Degree with a view to transfer to PhD
Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Assistant Studies
The following postgraduate programmes of study are excluded from the Alumni Discount
Scheme:


All Postgraduate Certificate programmes
All Postgraduate Diploma programmes including the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice
and the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (with the exception of the Postgraduate
Diploma in Physician Assistant Studies)

Programmes delivered in collaboration with other higher education establishments
- All programmes delivered at the International Christian College
- All programmes delivered at the University of Highlands and Islands
- All programmes delivered in collaboration with Samye Ling College (i.e. MSc in Mindfulness)

All Master of Education (MEd) programmes and MSc programmes based in the School of
Education

The following CPD (continuing professional development) programmes are also excluded:

MSc Hydrocarbon Exploration
MSc Oil and Gas Structural Engineering
MSc Project Management
MSc Software Project Management
Also excluded is the MSc in Information Technology by distance learning and the MSc in Subsea
Engineering by distance learning
Please also note that the LLB (accelerated) is not eligible for an alumni discount either
