diplomas delivered in conjunction with industry partners. Development of the
Short Courses@NFTS is a priority of the School.
Applications are invited for the position of Head of Short Courses at the NFTS.
You will have film an/or television production experience and/or experience of
teaching and tutoring new talent. Applicants need to have the capability to lead a
team, manage a budget and develop a portfolio of courses as well as being an
exceptional communicator possessing excellent interpersonal skills and a
passion for learning.
HEAD OF SHORT COURSES
REPORTING TO the Deputy Director & Director of Curriculum & Registrar
Purpose of role:
The purpose of the role is to recruit a full-time Head of Short Courses. The post requires
an experienced film and/or television professional with a solid understanding, knowledge
and practical experience of the industry customs and practices and some experience of
teaching and learning.
As Head of Short Courses you will:
1.
Provide direction to the department overseeing the creation and delivery of
NFTS short courses, certificate courses and part-time courses.
2.
Ensure the quality of the student experience on NFTS short courses remains
high and that outcomes remain consistent with those of a world leading film,
television and new media school.
3.
Develop the department’s course portfolio so that it continues to reflect the
development needs of those working in the film, television and new media
sectors.
4.
Lead the implementation of comprehensive and cost effective student
recruitment activities.
5.
Review and oversee the departmental budget with the Finance Director and
maintain budgetary control, ensuring that the department keeps within its
financial limits.
6.
To provide reports and present projects to the NFTS Board, sponsors, industry
partners, as appropriate.
7.
Take an active part in recruiting Tutors, keeping up-to-date lists, with profiles
and comments on their qualities
PROFILE
This post requires an experienced film and/or television professional with a solid
understanding, knowledge and practical experience of the industry customs and
practices and some experience of teaching and learning.
Working closely with the Director, Director of Curriculum and Registrar, the Head of
Short Courses is responsible for devising and revising the department course portfolio,
including short courses, certificate courses and part-time diploma courses.
The design, review and revision of the curriculum must conform to the requirements of
the NFTS and be agreed in advance by the NFTS Director or Director of Curriculum and
Registrar.
You need to be adept at running their area smoothly and efficiently, with emphasis on
forward planning.
You are expected to maintain discipline and inspire enthusiasm amongst the students for
whom you are responsible. You are also expected to maintain full assessment records,
formally noting each of their student’s progress, diligence and achievements on each
course.
Working together is the key to successful work at the NFTS. You are expected to
promote co-operation amongst fellow tutors and between areas of specialisation, as well
as between students. Good interpersonal skills are therefore essential.
