Just to keep you informed, as of October 2, 2015, here is a brief synopsis of things being worked
on/or accomplished in your City.
Administrative Services:
 Front Desk handled 628 calls and 167 walk-ins from 9/8/15-9/30/15.
 Charlen Wade is training to support both the HR role and the City Clerk. She is currently
learning the payroll process as well as contracts management and meeting minutes.
She will eventually be handling the Zoning Board Meetings.
 All ordinances and resolutions have been scanned into the City’s computer system for
easier accessibility.
 Due date for Mid-Year Performance Appraisals has been set for Friday, October 30 th.
 Working on gathering the necessary information for the year-end workers compensation
audit on October 8th.
City Manager’s Office:
 Attended the traffic study presentation by McMahon & Associates with the results on the
Key Corridor Network Evaluation.
 Attended the ground breaking ceremony at Community Hall to kick off the Downtown
Redevelopment efforts.
 Attended the City Manager’s Luncheon/Meeting with John Szerlag, City Manager Cape
Coral and Don Stillwell, City Manager Fort Myers Beach. Discussed issues of mutual
concern.
 Met with BSU and City Staff to talk about grease trap ordinance, etc.
 Attended the Industry Appreciation Awards Ceremony held at the Harborside Event
Center in Downtown Fort Myers.
 Attended the Chamber’s Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon held at the Hyatt with
Kathy McGrath being selected as Citizen of the Year. Congratulations Kathy!
 Attended the final budget hearing. City Council passed the Budget with a vote of 6-1 with
the millage rate remaining unchanged from last year. Congratulations to staff and Council!
 Met with individuals from the Blue Zone, along with Deputy Mayor Steve McIntosh to
discuss the program.
 Attended the ribbon cutting for the mural at Café of Life.
 Participated in a conference call with Ian Lockwood, Toole, Inc. regarding the Scope of
Work for the Bonita Beach Road Visioning.
 Met with Staff on possible changes in the Landscape Code.
 Met with Senator Garrett Richter, Mayor Nelson and Carole Green regarding fracking
legislation.
 Attended meeting of Coastal Advisory Council in Fort Myers to review County position on
multiple projects relative to beaches and Estero Bay.
 Attended meeting of the “Program for Public Information” coordinating committee. This
is a joint county and municipalities based initiative designed to help each of the
jurisdictions maximize their efforts to inform the public about issues relative to the
National Flood Insurance Program. A Resolution outlining our goals, objectives and

responsibilities along these lines will be coming to Council for consideration in early
November.
 Attended a meeting of the local Americans with Disabilities Act advisory committee.
 Attended a budget hearing and a Board of Director’s meeting of the Fort Myers Beach
Library. That facility is a stand-alone operation and the information gathered as to
operational costs and logistical concerns could be valuable to the city as it moves closer to
seeing a new library facility here.
 Spoke to a gathering of residents at the HOA sponsored meeting at Village Walk. Topics
discussed were….the status of Logan Blvd, the status of talks relative to the new High
School and new Library, the status of the Down Town project, the newly adopted budget
and it’s relation to the concept of Government Lite, and a reminder about still being in
“storm season” and ideas as to what responsible homeowners might want to consider
relative to storm protection and flood damage mitigation.
Development Services:
 Staff continues to meet with Waldrop Engineering on the New US 41 Overlay land
development code standards.
 Staff received the Bonita East 278 Comprehensive Plan Amendment Future Land Use
Text and Map amendment for three parcels of property located in the DRGR. Copies of
the application have been distributed to city, local, and regional agencies for review.
 Staff attended the 2015 Florida Association of Environmental Professional (FAEP)
Conference for continuing education.
 Askar: Development Order resubmittal currently under review for the demo of Old Pizza
Hut and construction of a Retail Center.
 Altaria Tower @ The Colony: Development Order Minor Change is currently under
review for additional signage and construction parking. Construction should start by the
end of the year.
 Seaglass @ Bonita Bay: Development Order Amendment is currently under review for
the Bonita Bay Tower. Construction will begin soon.
 Bonita National: Plans are under review to add a large fountain and water feature to the
Amenity Center. Phase 6 Development plans have been submitted with addition multifamily planned for construction soon.
 Springs Plaza: Owner will soon complete the site improvements to this shopping center.
Work includes façade painting, removal of speed bumps, landscaping, vehicular signage,
and pedestrian pavement markings.
 Center of Bonita: NCH is moving equipment into the recently completed building at the
north end of the shopping Center. Scheduled to open to the public in November.

 Highland Woods: Plans are under review for the construction of 2,500 ft. of 8 ft. wall
adjacent to the landscape buffer on the north side of Terry Street.
 Island Beach Club: Replaced asphalt with decorative brick pavers. Minor modifications
to drainage and parking lot striping.
Finance:
 Finalizing the FY 2015-2016 Budget Book.
 Planning for training on the financial statement software.
 Drafting a comprehensive Financial Policy.
 Completing year-end process and preparing for the annual audit.
 Drafting a purchasing guide for vendors who want to do business with the City.
 On-going contract monitoring.
 Met with representatives from the Town of Medley regarding our new financial system.
LCSO:
 Conducted State Probation Checks.
 Traffic Operation on Old US 41 Road and Rosemary Drive.
 Conducted Juvenile Probation Checks.
 Attended City of Bonita 9/11 Ceremony.
 Met with Security and President of HOA of Palmira reference crime prevention
measures and past occurred crimes within community.
 Undercover surveillance of area banks reference past occurred bank robberies.

 Crime suppression operation on Hickory beach accesses.
 Attended monthly Code Enforcement meeting.
Neighborhood Services:
 Director attended a webinar regarding signs; Reed vs. The Town of Gilbert and
regulating content.
 Director attended the Downtown redevelopment Project ground breaking ceremony.
 Director attended a meeting with BSU to discuss grease traps and assisting with
enforcement processes.
 Director and Peggy Douglas attended the “Wall Mural” dedication at Leitner Park/Café
of Life.
 Director and Peggy Douglas met with mowing contractors regarding processes and
assistance with the Bonita Building Blocks Program.
 Director attended the Long Term Recovery Task Force meeting at Lee County Emergency
Operations Center (EOC).
 Chuck Tomlinson and Tom Gray attended the Regional Task Force for Unlicensed
Contractors meeting with guest speaker Dane Eagle discussing enforcement and
investigations
 Director and Lilian Villanueva attended the Ethics Training at City Hall.
 Department assisted Lee County Animal Services with an animal hoarding case - this is a
multi-departmental response to a very complex situation involving many resources.
 A video was posted to the City’s website regarding the Bonita Building Blocks program.
 Neighborhood Services hosted the monthly Resource Task Force Meeting.
Parks & Rec:
 Attended the National Parks and Recreation Association Annual Conference.
 Obtaining quotes from different skate park companies to replace the rotten wood under
the ramp of the current skate park.
 Attended the final City of Bonita Springs Budget hearing.
 Staff attended the monthly Bicycle Pedestrian Safety Advisory Board meeting.
 Working with Wright Construction on a demolition plan for the Church Property and
Community Hall. The Church property is slated for demolition on Monday Oct. 5 th with
the Community Hall slated for the following week.
 Park staff met with the Finance department to go over the internal controls for funds of
the Recreation Center and Community Pool.
 The Bonita Springs Community Pool Locker Room flooring renovations are wrapping up
this week. The Pool will reopen on Monday Oct. 5th. During the closure the members of
the pool could use the Bonita YMCA or San Carlos Park Pool for free.
 Met with the City Manager, Public Works Director, and Development Services Director
to discuss developer mitigation requirements.

 The Riverside Park Bandshell is continuing to be under maintenance as it is in the
process of getting new sod. We are awaiting the rains to slow down as the fields are too
wet to cut the new sod out.
 Director was interviewed by the Bonita Estero Magazine to discuss the great outdoor
opportunities in Bonita Springs for Hiking, Biking and Kayaking.
Public Works:
 Downtown Improvement Project: Construction is underway. Construction has started
at the intersection of Old 41 and Wilson Street on the BSU Waterline upgrade project
and the Front Street connection behind the band shell (See Photos).
 Landscaping US 41 & East Terry Street: Completed “punch list” items on East Terry
Street project and completed final walkthrough. Continued to install median plantings
and irrigation on US 41.
 South Florida Water Management District/DEP Grant workshop: Attended a grant
workshop hosted by the South Florida Water Management District and the DEP to
discuss application processes and grant opportunities for storm water treatment
projects.
 Michigan & Pennsylvania Handrail: Repaired sidewalk handrail at the intersection of
Pennsylvania and Michigan Street that had been damaged from a recent traffic accident.
 Shangri-La Traffic Signal: Solicited proposals for the construction of a traffic signal at the
intersection of Shangri-la Road and Imperial Parkway. Bids are due back: 10/23/15.
 DRGR Water Monitoring: Solicited letters of interest for firms to conduct Water
Monitoring in the City’s portion of the DRGR. Proposals are due back: 11/2/15.
