Just to keep you informed, as of May 16, 2014, here is a brief synopsis of things being worked
on/or accomplished in your City.
City Manager’s Office
 Met with Dave Loveland, Lee County DOT and Public Works Staff regarding the landscaping
of County roads in the City.
 Held a strategizing meeting with Code Enforcement, BSU and Lee County Sheriff’s Office on
dealing with the code issues on the Hancock property.
 Participated in Dr. Steve’s Government Day with a great group of Bonita Charter School 7 th
grade students.
 Attended meeting at Community Development to review Big Box Store Ordinance
Presentation for Council.
 Attended the Government Affairs Committee Meeting at the Bonita Springs Chamber.
 Attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at Cullum’s Bonita Trail.
 Swore in new Code Enforcement Officer Tom Gray.
 Attended the Bonita Springs Estero Economic Development Council meeting.
 Attended the 2014 Celebration of Business and Tourism Chrysalis Awards where the City
had been nominated in the Business Development category for the “One Stop Shop”. The
winner was Center for the Arts for Cultural Achievement.
 Completed process for establishing “SMART Goals” for department heads for the April
2014-April 2015 period.
 Participated in working session with residents from the Bonita Springs Golf Course
communities arranged by their HOA for the purpose of updating them on the status of
Shangri-La Road Project and to hear from them about their concerns relative to the future
of the Golf Course in public or private ownership.
 Followed up with those department heads who received recommendations from the
Technology Advisory Board, through the City Council, to begin plans for implementation
where possible, and further investigation where needed.
 Finalized plans with County Library Staff and their Consultants for outreach efforts
including focus group meetings and one-on-one meetings with City Council in order for the
consultant to gain the benefit of as much community input and insight as possible.
 Met with Councilman Gibson and representatives of the MPO and FDOT in advance of the
5-16-14 MPO meeting that he will be attending for the first time.
Code Enforcement:
 Following up with all businesses who are still displaying banners under the expired
weekend banner program.
 Dollar General on Old 41 will be replacing their dead landscape by June 1 st.
 Attended joint meeting between Sheriff’s office, Fire, Animal Control and Lee County Parks
to discuss any issues and provide any assistance between agencies.

 Visiting all establishments that sell fertilizer, to provide them with signs and educational
pamphlets. June 1st starts the blackout period for the use of fertilizer containing nitrogen or
phosphorus until September 30th.
 Substantial compliance was achieved on an unsafe structure located on Sunray.

City Clerk/Administrative Services:
 The front desk/reception staff greeted 248 guests and directed 566 calls to various
departments from April 24, 2014 through May 15, 2014.
 The City Clerk’s office responded to 10 public records requests through May 15, 2014.
 The proofs for the City’s Code of Ordinances have been reviewed by the City Clerk and City
Attorney and forwarded to Municipal Code Corporation for codification.
 The new entryway at City Hall was completed on April 25.
 Letters have been sent to Lee County providing notification of annexations in progress.
Notices of Hearings have been advertised providing notification of the upcoming
annexation hearings.
 Participated in the Bonita Charter School Student Government Day.
 Met with the City’s insurance representative to review the insured assets of the City, along
with appraised values.

for Holiday Lighting.

 Bulletin Board updating, and BTV98 monitoring observed daily.

Press releases/Media:
 Released the Press Release: Join us for the Memorial Day Service in Bonita Springs
 Releases the press Release: Bonita Springs Welcomes the Public to a Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony for Cullum’s Bonita Trail
 Working on the submission for the League of Cities award in three categories.
 Created a Pamphlet for the Trap Neuter Release Program
Development Services:
 American House – Phase 1 and 2 buildings are under construction. Grading and drainage
on Longfellow begins next week. Opening is planned in early 2015.
 RaceTrac Fuel – Contractor is working aggressively to complete and open this station in
June 19th. The westbound turn lane construction on Bonita Beach Road will be completed
soon. Concrete parking and fueling areas should be poured next week. (See Photo)

 Comedy Club - Permits for the site development have been reviewed and additional
information requested by staff prior to approval. Building renovation plans should be
submitted soon.
 Bonita National – Final grading of the golf course construction continues with plans to start
seeding this month. Development Order plans for Phase 1 homes are under review by
staff. Lennar hopes to opens the golf course in November and open models by the end of
the year.
 Baywood Phase 2 – Construction in the Bonita Bay Community has been completed.
Building permits are anticipated soon.
 Starbucks and Tides – Building permits have been issued and site development continues.
A late summer opening is anticipated.
 Ceilo in the Colony - Construction is near completion and site inspections underway.
Several units should are scheduled for final inspections early next month.
 Center of Bonita – Final paving and landscaping are near completion and Publix plans to
open in June. Phase 2 work in the vicinity of the Old Publix will continue through the
summer. (See Photo)

 D.R. Horton – Clearing and grading is underway in the Cordera Community on the west side
of Imperial Parkway. The Developer hopes to have models open by the end of the year.
 Lake renovation in Bonita Bay continues to proceed on schedule. Sea walls and slope
stabilization has been added to protect further erosion and structural damage. City
officials and Bonita Bay toured the site last week.
Finance:
 Staff completed the initial site visit with the new software implementation consultant. At
this site visit, the software was customized for the City’s financial functions and finance
staff received training. Go live date has been scheduled for August 4th.
 Finance is working in the new software to complete set up.
 We are designing new procedures for recurring tasking in the new software.
 Staff is converting our vendor data for the new accounting software.
 Staff is developing the preliminary revenue estimates for the 2014-2015 budget cycle.
 We are reviewing and summarizing the departmental budget packets for presentation to
the City Manager who will complete a line-by-line review of budget requests.
 Staff is preparing for meetings with City Manager and department heads to review 20142015 budget requests.
 Finance staff completed and remitted the Finance department budget for 2014-2015
budget.
 Staff completed the Beginning of Cycle performance evaluations.
 Staff submitted the second quarter performance measure data to the City Manager for
review.
 Staff is building a Design-Build template for Public Works.

 Attended meeting in Bonita Bay reference security issues.
 Meeting with Lora and Patrick reference City permits.
 Traffic Operation in San Remo.
 Traffic Operation E. Terry Street and Oliver Drive.
 Traffic Operation Bonita Grande Drive and Growers Road.
 Attended Grand Opening of Café of Life.
 Attended meeting with Collier County SO reference recent home invasions.
 Attended monthly Code Enforcement/Fire meeting.
 Traffic Operation S. Tamiami Trail and W. Terry Street.
 Traffic Operation Imperial Parkway and Red Rock Road.
 Attended City meeting with Carl Schwing reference Oak Lane violations.
 Traffic Operation Bonita Beach Road and Bonita Grande Drive.
Parks & Rec:
 The gopher tortoises in the Dog Park development area at Mayhood have now been moved
to a gopher tortoise preserve in Highlands County.
 The Bonita Middle School have a service learning day at the Bonita Nature Place which was
very successful. The middle school students with the help of FGCU students worked on
weed clean up as well as had fun hiking the trails and learning about the facility.
 Met with Fort Myers Beach Parks and Recreation Director, Randy Norton, to discuss our
new Old Rec Center flooring as they are looking into replacing their own flooring and
wanted to discuss the process of how we chose our new flooring.
 Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held for the Leitner Neighborhood Park grand opening. The
daily lunches for the community began on Monday May 12 th. Café of Life will no longer be
using the Banyan tree area at Community Hall.
 The Old Recreation Center Flooring renovations are complete. I will put together a short
presentation for City Council to go over the complete renovation project.
 Bid opening was held for the Depot Park Restroom renovation project. A low bidder was
selected and we be going to Council for approval.
 Held interviews for the part time recreation center rep. open position.
 Ribbon Cutting was held for Cullum’s Bonita Trail. Staff worked with Lora Taylor and her
staff to set up the event.
 Tree trimming is being done in all 20 parks due to the up-coming storm season. We want
to make sure all dead and loose branches are removed from all our trees.
 Working with artist in the Artist Cottages to renew their leases. Those that do not renew,
we will be putting out a new RFP for new artists.
 Staff worked with CES to repair water line break at the Community Pool. Repair was fixed
and pool reopened the next morning.
 Presented at Tourism Development Council regarding a change in the scope of work on
Phase 3 of River Park, we are looking at building boardwalks, shell paths and the last fishing
pier instead of just additional boardwalks, shell paths and no fishing pier due to our Army
Corp of Engineering permit expiration in January 2015.
 Met with Matt Feeney, Public Works Director regarding additional water access for
recreational purposes particularly Spring Creek and the Bay/Gulf areas.

 The Bonita Springs Soccer Complex and Marni Fields will be closed for summer
maintenance beginning on June 9th. This was announced to all our soccer leagues this
week.
Public Works:
 Shangri-La Road: Construction Continues.
 Downtown Improvements: Assembled design criteria package for down town design/build
team solicitation; routed the solicitation package to the City Attorney for final review.
 Pollard Street: Installed slot drain (See Photo Below).
 Pelican Ridge: Installed Cross Drain Pipe (See Photo Below).
 Bonita Trail: Stabilized ditch with Rip Rap (See Photo Below).
 Unpaved Roads Phase II: Conducted pre-bid meeting for Phase II unpaved road project.
 Spring Creek: Scheduled a meeting with the DEP and creek residents to discuss mangrove
trimming permits.
 Depot Park Rest Rooms: Conducted bid opening for restroom renovation project.
