WHYY staff speak frequently to students and/or civic groups about careers in public media. WHYY’s Tour Program has regular tours held for groups or individuals providing information regarding radio and television broadcasting, at their request. Participate in at least four events over two years relating to career opportunities sponsored by educational institutions. Host and executive producer of WHYY’s Radio Times spoke to Drexel University students, faculty, parents, families, alumni, prospective students, the public and staff on February 2012. The topic for the evening highlighted the highs and lows of the past 25 years and how to put together two hours of compelling talk radio five days a week. On April 5, 2012, the managing editor of Delaware and the host/reporter/producer of “First” spoke to Wilmington University broadcasting class and writing and reporting for the mass media class regarding the skills needed to be marketable in the media industry; a total of 15 students were present in each class. On May 18th, 2012, 7th graders from Northley Middle School visited various content areas and members of each department in WHYY. 20 students gained knowledge about television production careers from their visit. o Brand Management & Promotion Department - Robert Dieters - Print, video, o o o promos and web marketing and how they all work together for the specific events and shows we promote. The community editor of “NewsWorks” and the community media editor conducted seven morning meetings from August 2011 to March 2012 with the students of University of Arts regarding the UofArts/Newsworks collaboration; ten to 15 students participated in each meeting. On February 21, 2013, the human resources coordinator and volunteer/intern coordinator attended a career fair at St. Joseph’s University to help identify talented students and alumni. They actively spoke to 46 undergraduate, graduate students and alumni about the human resources coordinator position and various internship opportunities at WHYY. On October 4, 2012, the human resources coordinator and volunteer/intern coordinator attended a career fair at Temple University. They actively recruited for internship programs at WHYY for the fall semester. On February 12, 2013, the human resources coordinator and volunteer/intern coordinator attended a career fair at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. They spoke with 25 undergraduate and alumni students about the associate media instructor temporary position and various internship opportunities for summer. On February 22, 2013, the volunteer/intern coordinator attended a not-for-profit networking fair in Byrn Mawr College. Forty students learned about various internship and volunteer opportunities for the upcoming summer and fall semester. This was a three hour session held on September 11, 2012 at WHYY by Career Services Unlimited. On September 28, 2012, 11 employees attending a NPHR Leadership Education Session on Thinking Strategically. The Human Resources Coordinator attended a training session on I-9 Employment Verification: What Employers Need to Know and a webinar addressing EEOC Updates: How to prepare and stay in compliance. The Human Resources Manager attended a seminar on PSHRM Symposium, a webinar on Leave of Absence, and a training session on the Family Medical Leave Act. Two members from the Human Resources department attended a Non-Profit Human Resources training series on Leadership Education: Managing in 2013 and Beyond.
