The drive will feature appearances by legendary superstar Carol Channing, travel expert Rick Steves, composer Tim Janis and more. The goal for this year’s drive is $1,200,000 and 8,000 new members. Financial support from WHYY’s members accounts for half of the station’s annual budget. On Saturday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m., watch AMERICA’S HOME COOKING: CASSEROLES AND COVERED DISHES. Host Chris Fennimore and co-host Nancy Polinsky welcome guest cooks into the kitchen to share some of their favorite family recipes. Ham and potato gratin, mushroom and rice casserole, and eggplant parmesan are just a few of the recipes featured. At 6:00 p.m., tune in for SQUIRREL WARS. Love them or hate them, squirrels living in American backyards generate a presence that cannot be ignored. SQUIRREL WARS is hosted by naturalist George Harrison and explores the impact squirrels have on people, often causing outrageous human behavior. Scenes of foolish battles people wage on the pests are followed by practical, safe and easy solutions for both people and squirrels. Then at 7:00 p.m., Lawrence Welk singer Ralna English will be at WHYY to host LAWRENCE WELK: MILESTONES AND MEMORIES. This three-hour music special reunites 47 members of the Welk “musical family” in a once-in-a-lifetime performance. This special features Welk stars Myron Floren, all five living “Champagne Ladies,” Bobby Burgess dancing with all three of his partners on stage for the first time ever, The Lennon Sisters, a special performance by singing favorites Guy and of course, Ralna English. On Sunday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m., watch DARE TO REPAIR. Millions of women have never learned to perform basic repairs on the ordinary things found around the house. With their amusing anecdotes and practical advice, hosts Julie Sussman and Stephanie Glakas will give female viewers the information they need to take that home repair challenge and “dare to repair.” -more- MARCH 2004 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE 2-2-2-2 WHYY’s newest production, DENYCE GRAVES: BREAKING THE RULES, will air at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 7. Recorded in front of a live audience at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, the program features Denyce Graves, along with celebrity guests soul diva Patti LaBelle and popular R&B vocal group Take 6, performing an electrifying collection of classical, gospel, R&B, and jazz favorites. Then at 9:00 p.m., Carol Channing will be at WHYY to host CAROL CHANNING AND PEARL BAILEY ON BROADWAY. The program features Channing and Bailey united at the Winter Garden Theater on Broadway. The unforgettable evening of song, dance and comedy brings together Broadway’s two favorite Dollies. Channing sings “If I Were A Rich Man” from Fiddler On The Roof and Bailey sings “76 Trombones” from The Music Man. The highlight of the show is their unforgettable duet of “Hello, Dolly!” Dr. Wayne Dyer, best-selling author and speaker on transformational wisdom, will be at WHYY to host DR. WAYNE DYER: POWER OF INTENTION on Monday, March 8 at 8:00 p.m. In the program, Dr. Dyer teaches that every person possesses the potential and power to create the life he or she desires. Based on his new book of the same title, he takes viewers into an exploration of intention, as seen through his fresh interpretation of scientific and metaphysical thinking. On Wednesday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m., WHYY will present FUNNY LADIES OF BRITISH COMEDY. British comedy is loaded with memorable characters, a high percentage of which just happen to be female. This program is a fun and fascinating combination of hilarious “Britcom” clips and insightful behind-the-scenes commentary by the actresses who brought to life the characters we adore. Mollie Sudgen and Judi Dench star among a slew of other actresses. On Saturday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m., PROUD TO SERVE: THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE U.S. ARMY salutes the men and women who dedicate their lives to the United States military. Through reflections and personal stories of sacrifice and adventure, this program profiles the camaraderie and pride shared among those in active combat. Interviews include veteran and former Senator Bob Dole; basketball star and Army brat Shaquille O’Neal; Korean War veteran and “G.I.
