Position Announcement Dean of Library Services Pittsburg State University Pittsburg State University seeks a dynamic and visionary leader for the position of Dean of Library Services. Pittsburg State University’s library desires to be an academic center meeting the needs of students, faculty, and the Southeast Kansas community. The Dean of Library Services reports to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for all areas of library administration including strategic and long-range planning, policy and program development, fiscal management, personnel supervision, utilization of emerging technologies, and development of internal and external partnerships. Pittsburg State University seeks a leader who understands learning styles of current students, is knowledgeable of trends in higher education, academic libraries, and information technology. While providing a vision for the future of PSU’s libraries, it is expected that the dean will develop an effective and collaborative team of library faculty and staff as well as strong functional relationships with other constituent groups. Required Qualifications: MLS or MLIS degree from ALA accredited institution, or equivalent. Record that warrants appointment with tenure and a senior faculty rank in library services and predicts continued professional development and contributions. Demonstrates knowledge of emerging library and information technologies and trends in higher education and their impact on library services. Evidence of effective management of fiscal, budgetary, personnel, project implementation, and other administrative responsibilities. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills within the context of effective working relationships. Evidence of capacity to develop a strong and effective team. Experience with assessment and strategic planning. Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate. Five years of administrative experience in library setting including personnel supervision. Experience in the following areas: grant writing, fund-raising, contract negotiation. Experience with shared governance and a bargaining unit environment. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position Availability: Current Dean retires January 2010. Ideally, the successful candidate will begin at that time.
