Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English and Modern Languages at Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a tenureearning Assistant Professor of English in Creative Writing Fiction (contingent upon funding).

Position Duties and Responsibilities: Duties will include teaching four courses each semester including graduate and undergraduate short story writing, introduction to creative writing (fiction and poetry), and literature courses. Will direct or serve on M.A. thesis committees; advise the student literary magazine and the student writing club; and create publicity and outreach for the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series. Nine-month, full-time, tenure-earning position.

Minimum Qualifications: Appropriate terminal degree with fiction writing emphasis, college-level teaching experience, publications, and demonstrated excellence and recognition for creative writing.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with advising graduate creative writing theses, teaching varied levels of fiction writing and literature, teaching or writing poetry, participating in arrangements for visiting writers, advising literary magazine students.

Expertise in late 19 th /early 20 th century short fiction or novel.

Department Description: The Department of English and Modern Languages has 27 full-time faculty, 10 graduate assistants, and 8 adjunct faculty. The department has 174 undergraduate majors, 117 minors, and 20 graduate students.

We offer the B.A. in English and in Modern Languages (French or Spanish) and the B.S.Ed. and the M.A. in English.

Pittsburg State is primarily a teaching institution. In progress toward tenure we emphasize teaching and service, with some publications expected. We value the ability to work as a member of a team.
