Pittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Assessment and
Collection Development Librarian. The successful candidate will provide service-oriented and
collaborative leadership and direction for the development and implementation of strategies to
assess and to improve the Library’s collections and services.
The Assessment and Collection Development Librarian will:
* Provide direction for the evaluation and acquisition of high-quality collections that
support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University.
* Promote a culture of assessment and the integration of assessment into all phases of
planning, services, and collection management.
* Work collaboratively across library services units to support library innovations and to
improve processes and workflows.
* Use relevant data and metrics to support the library’s collection analysis and collection
development decisions.
* Provide direction for the library’s liaison activities with academic departments.
* Monitor changes in the University’s academic programs, degrees, and research
emphases and adapt collection development decisions to meet emerging needs.
* Monitor and evaluate trends and developments relevant to academic libraries in the
areas of assessment and collection development.
* Provide supervision for one University Support Staff acquisitions employee.
* Coordinate the library’s gift materials program, including a Library book sale.
* Participate in evening and weekend public services and reference duties.
* Serve the Library, the University, and the library profession through participation in
meetings, committee work, and research or other scholarly activities.
* Demonstrate the capability and the commitment to engage in professional
development, scholarship, and service worth of promotion and tenure as a faculty
member at Pittsburg State University.
* Help to maintain an environment of collegiality and teamwork that enables library
faculty and support staff to contribute to achieving the mission and goals of the
Library and the University.
Required Qualifications:
* Masters degree in library and/or information science from an A.L.A. accredited
program.
* Demonstrated knowledge of assessment tools, statistical software, and processes
relevant to academic libraries and/or to higher education, including administering
assessment in various environments.
* Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Evidence of an understanding of issues facing academic libraries and flexibility in
adapting to changing organizational priorities and technological environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in academic library settings.
* Experience in collection development in an academic library setting.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with library staff at all levels and with
people of diverse backgrounds.
The Assessment and Collection Development Librarian reports to the Dean of Library Services.
This position is a 12-month, full-time, tenure earning position.
Pittsburg State University is an accredited, comprehensive, state-supported institution in
southeastern Kansas, with an enrollment of approximately 7,400 students. The City of
Pittsburg has a population of approximately 20,000 residents and is close to major cultural
events and areas of great natural beauty. The city is only 30 minutes from Joplin, Missouri,
about two hours from Kansas City, Missouri and Tulsa, Oklahoma, and less than three hours
from Branson, Missouri and Eureka Springs, Arkansas in the heart of the Ozarks.
