GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Director of Volunteers will prepare and mobilize leaders to work together for the good of the whole community with an emphasis on volunteerism, volunteer leadership and an understanding of the differences/similarities between volunteer leadership and community leadership. The director will need to be knowledgeable in volunteerism, experienced in curriculum development and accomplished in face-to-face instruction. It is critical for the Director of Volunteers to build high-value relationships between those who give of their time (companies, employees, individuals, etc.) and those to whom that time is given (nonprofits, government, causes, etc.). The director must provide project management for meaningful volunteer opportunities and strategically engage stakeholder groups to take volunteerism and volunteer leadership to the next level in the Memphis Metro Area. WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Promote volunteer awareness and engagement Plan, execute and evaluate the outcome measures of volunteer services Prepare people in volunteer leadership/community leadership (internal/external) Mobilize volunteers, volunteer leaders and community leaders/stakeholders Coordinate Corporate Volunteer Council priorities and activities Organize and provide project management for meaningful volunteer opportunities Raise funds and resources to support the LM Volunteer initiatives SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred. 3-5 years’ experience, preferably in volunteerism, business, education and/or non-profit. Understanding of community/national service and education a plus. This position requires a high level of strategic thinking, marketing savvy, relationship building, as well as planning, organization, project management skills, attention to details and accuracy. Demonstrate the ability to multi-task simultaneously and to prioritize to meet deadlines. Must be self-motivated, and able to work well both independently and cooperatively; proven success working as member of a team. Position requires a high degree of professionalism, tact and diplomacy, and sensitivity to highly confidential information. Strong computer skills needed, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and familiarity with complex databases. Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) The demonstrated ability to build constituency programs and activities, overcome barriers and obstacles, and possess a talent for motivating staff and volunteers. A willingness to learn. Occasional evening and weekend work required. Communication skills - written and verbal Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
