Dear Parent
Dear Parents/Guardians and Wild Cats Students,
I would like to welcome you to the beginning of another school year and to
seventh grade social studies! I look forward to working with you this year. The
purpose of this letter is to inform you of some exciting features about our
curriculum and provide you and your child with a clear set of rules and objectives
that will be necessary to follow for a successful year in social studies.
I am very pleased to inform you that we have a wonderful textbook that we
will be utilizing throughout the school year. Additionally, the book has an on-line
version that will be able to provide you with access to view the book from your
home. I will help the students obtain the log on and password information to
access their textbooks on-line. Furthermore, the North Allegheny School District
has a website that is very easy to navigate through and provides wonderful
assistance and information to you. Once you are on the North Allegheny School
District website, you can select “Carson Middle School” to access the CMS
Website. When you are at the CMS Website, you will click on “Building Staff”
and select my name to find my homework page. I will place information on this
page that you can follow our progress throughout the year.
I want to assure you that we, as a class, will spend some significant time
identifying and explaining the following rules and procedures so that all students
have a clear understanding of my expectations for them. I ask that you review the
following rules and procedures so that you too have a clear understanding of my
procedures and requirements for our social studies class. Furthermore, I ask that
you sign and date the document’s last page to indicate that you have read and are
aware of our procedures and expectation. The materials needed for class are also
listed on the last page of this document. If you should have any questions, please
do not hesitate to contact me; my information is listed below my signature.
Again, I want to thank you for your support and cooperation. I am
confident that as we work together, with your child as our common focus, we will
provide the opportunity for your child to truly succeed this year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jesse Warner

materials out and ready for the lesson. Please make sure pencils are
sharpened.
5. Please raise your hand to ask questions or volunteer information about
our objectives.
6. Please do not shout out answers or comments and refrain from
distractions.
7. Your interaction and participation with the teacher and other students
is greatly encouraged.
Expectation # 3
I will follow all classroom operations.
Procedures to follow in order to achieve Expectation # 3:
1. Quietly enter the room, go to your seat to await your instructions.
2. If you are late to class, you must have a pass indicating your previous
location.
3. Turn in any homework to the teacher or place it in the appropriate
bin/ location in the classroom. Do not place any homework on my
desk.
4. Each day you will need to bring your homework, textbooks,
notebooks, and writing utensils. You must have all of your materials
at the start of class or you will be penalized points if you have to go
into the hall to obtain them.
5. Quickly sharpen your pencil during the first five minutes of class. If
someone else is at the pencil sharpener, please wait in your seat until
the person is finished. If you need to sharpen your pencil during the
remainder of the class time, please do so quickly and quietly. You do
not have to ask permission to sharpen your pencil: simply get up and
quietly sharpen your pencil.
6. Quickly and quietly use the restroom during the first five minutes of
class. You must sign-out and take the hall pass with you. You must
fill out the clipboard with all necessary information. If someone is
using the restroom, please wait until the person returns to use the
pass. If a need or emergency should arise during the remainder of the
class time, please silently sign-out, get the pass, and use the restroom.
7. All garbage should be placed in the trash can.
8. If you are returning from an absence, vacation or appointment, please
immediately place your homework in the bin. If you return to school
in the same day as being absent from class, please turn in your
homework that day. Find out what assignments you missed.
Assignments will be located in the “Handouts You Missed While
You Were Out” bin. You may come to my classroom during
Homeroom, S.S.R. / D.E.A.R., or Activity Periods to turn in
homework and copy notes or other assignments.
9. If you leave early from school, you are asked to turn in your work
before you leave the building. Furthermore, you need to obtain the
assignment(s) that you will miss. Assignments will be located in the
“Handouts We Are Doing Today” bin.
10. Follow all the lesson directions and objectives that are written on the
chalk board each day.
11. Follow all group procedures when working in peer groups.
Expectation # 4
I will follow all assignment directions.
Procedures to follow in order to achieve Expectation # 4:
1. Complete all assignments using the following heading on each loose
leaf paper. Points will be deducted for not using the complete title. An
example of the required heading is always placed above the chalk board
and is listed below:
Heading
Name First and Last
Date
Subject/ Pd.
Assignment
Example
John Jones
8/26/10
S.S/per. 2
pg. 231 #1-5
2. Complete all assignments using complete sentences. Complete
sentences start with a capitalized first letter, subject, predicate, and
ending punctuation. Points will be deducted for not using complete
sentences.
3. Homework is immediately due on the following day it has been
assigned. Homework will be collected at the beginning of class. It will
either be collected by the teacher or placed in the labeled class bin. If
homework is being submitted after an absence it must be placed in the
labeled class bin. Homework should never be placed on my desk.
4. There are two types of homework assignments; the first is a regular
assignment which is assigned and due when specified. The second is a
class discussion assignment which is assigned and due when specified,
and will be used for class participation. Students will always be
notified in class when a homework assignment will be used for
discussion on the following day(s). Homework assignments that are not
complete by the due date will not receive full credit. The late
assignments will be scored based on completion. Homework may be
submitted a day after it is due for half credit. Students may use a
homework pass if they have one. This pass will give them one week to
resubmit an incomplete assignment and possibly earn full credit. The
resubmitted assignment must be completed and submitted with the
homework pass. If any homework is turned in without a name, it will
not be given credit. A student may claim the assignment and resubmit
it with a name. However it will be deducted points.
5. If you were previously notified of an assignment, test or quiz, you will
need to make up or submit the assignment, test, or quiz following the
day of your absence(s). If you have multiple absences you will be
given several days to complete assignments.
6. Do not cheat on or copy homework and/or any assignments. The result
will be a zero for the assignment. Plagiarism will not be accepted.
Talking during quizzes and exams will not be accepted and will result
in a loss of letter grade for the test or quiz.
7. Grades will be assigned in the following order:
100-90 % =A; 89-80 % = B; 79-70 % = C; 69-60 % = D; 59-0 % = E
Grade points will consist of homework = 5-20pts; quizzes or written
assignments = 20-30pts; tests and projects 40-50pts. If any student
receives a 69% or lower on a test, he or she may have 3 days to correct
all of the errors made on the test. Corrections must be written out and
state the evidence for the changes made. In so doing he or she may
resubmit for a maximum value of 70%.
Expectation # 5
I will follow the class motto.
“My best performance is expected, greatness will be found in me.”
Materials Needed for Class:
 Three ringed binder - binders are ideal to collect and keep all
handouts and materials.
 Pens or pencils - students can choose what to use in class
 Set of colored pencils
 Highlighter(s)
 If you have financial constraints, or are not able to obtain these items,
please contact me.
Routines for Correction and Discipline
If an expectation/rule is not being followed, I will meet with the student
and will recall what the expectation is and how it can be accomplished.
If thereafter, the expectation and procedures can not be complied with,
the discipline process will be followed. All issues will be dealt with
immediately. I will try to redirect any inappropriate behavior via a silent
prompt or warning. If the behavior does not change, I will quietly
conference with the student alone or in the hallway. Finally, if
inappropriate behavior continues, we will follow the C.M.S. discipline
procedures outlined in the Code of Conduct and parents will be
contacted.
Please sign, detach and return by September 3, 2015
to Mr. Warner indicating you have read and understand the
classroom expectations and procedures.
I have read and understand the rules and procedures for social studies class
with Mr. Warner.
