Project Summary: This project will allow the use of Kindles at respective institutions to determine the
impact on learning and reduction of text book costs. Each institution will have a control group of one
course that is taught traditionally face-to-face and one treatment group equivalent course that uses
Kindles. Pre/post student surveys will be used for each course that looks at criteria for learning that are
aligned with texts and digital learning. There is little comparative research on the use of digital readers
and especially research that includes students and faculty perspectives, which is project proposes.

 Coordinate use of Kindles
 Purchase of 60 Kindles with OCCDLA grant and 20 with Umpqua Community College tech
monies
 Sharing out of best practices for use of digital readers
 Coordinate meetings of college representatives
 Develop and present presentations describing work and outcomes
 Coordinate budget including payment and maintenance of Kindles
