Grants for Research and Creative Activity in the Arts & Humanities Sponsored by the Office of Research 2011-2012 Request for Proposals Arts & Humanities announces a major grant competition for all faculty on all campuses within the 21 Departments in Arts & Humanities. Grants for Research and Creative Activity (RCA Grants) are open to all ranks of tenure-track faculty in Arts & Humanities: Assistant Professors must have successfully completed their fourth year review and exhausted any available Assistant Professor Research Funds to receive funding from these awards. Projects previously funded by Grants for Research & Creative Activity or earlier iterations of the Arts & Humanities Seed and Innovation Grants in previous years are ineligible for these awards. These awards may not be used in conjunction with any other Support for Research grants in the Arts & Humanities program. Collaborative Research Grants. Awards of up to $25,000 will be available for groups of two or more faculty beginning new collaborative research or creative projects. At least one of the Principal Investigators must be a member of the tenure-track faculty in Arts & Humanities. Preference will be given to projects that highlight interdisciplinary links in and between the Arts & Humanities, though connections with other fields are certainly welcome. New collaborative research proposals focused on book projects, exhibitions, performances, curricular projects, workshops, special seminars, off-campus research, pedagogy, outreach and engagement, and interdisciplinary work are welcome, as well as any other projects that fall under the general heading of this program. Specific plans for a tangible product (e.g. monograph, public or recorded performance, stand-alone symposium, film, catalogue) must be included in the application. Applicants should carefully explain the expected impact of the project when completed, including (where relevant) the influence it will have on current scholarship, the size and composition of the audience to which it will be delivered, the prestige of the venue in which it will be performed, the influence on curriculum or teaching, the broader impact on the community, and so on. Application deadline: Friday, February 10, 2012. The total award will not be more than $25,000 for any one project. RCA Grant Funds may be used for the following: Materials, supplies and equipment (note that any items in this category purchased with grant money remain the property of The Ohio State University) Travel for research, presentation, or performance Honoraria for visiting speakers Undergraduate or graduate student stipends, tuition, and fees RCA Grant Funds may not be used to purchase a release from teaching, or to pay for food or per diem expenses. Funding decisions will be made by the Dean of Arts & Humanities, in consultation with the Arts & Humanities Research Committee, by March 9, 2012. Funds must be expended within 2 years from the date of the award and a final report will be due to the College Office within 3 months from the end of the 2-year award period. The final report should include a description of the objectives, success in completing the objectives, other accomplishments, impact to the relevant fields, a detailed expenditure report, and a copy of the publication or documentation of the exhibition or performance, as applicable.
