A Caleb Loring, Jr. Fellowship is available for research on topics concerning the Confederate
States and the Civil War. It offers a stipend of $1,500 for a residency of twenty days (four
weeks) and includes a year's membership to the Boston Athenæum. Applicants must be U.S.
citizens or foreign nationals holding the appropriate U.S. government documents.
Applicants should use this online form to be considered for the Athenæum's Caleb Loring, Jr.
Fellowship. Applications are due April 15, and all candidates will be informed by early June.

Synopsis: The program is designed to make outstanding out-of-print humanities books available
to a wide audience. By taking advantage of low-cost ebook technology, the program will allow
teachers, students, scholars, and the public to read humanities books that have long been out of

South Arts Invites Applications for Literary Arts Touring Program

South Arts is accepting applications from organizations that invite writers of fiction, creative
nonfiction, and poetry from out of state to give readings and conduct educational workshops or
similar events.
Through its Literary Arts Touring initiative, South Arts will award grants of up to $2,500 for
literary projects that contain both a public reading and an educational component such as a
writing workshop. The project can include single or multiple writers involved in an event
(writers series, festivals, or single engagements). The maximum grant request is 50 percent of the
writers’ fee(s). Qualified projects must take place between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016.
To be eligible, organizations must be designated as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the
Internal Revenue Code or be a governmental organization and be located in Alabama, Florida,
Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee.
Applications will not be accepted from organizations that do not have a DUNS number.
