Course description
6th grade Spanish is a semester course designed to introduce the students to the language. The
course includes vocabulary, basic elements of grammar, and Spanish (Latin American) culture.
Oral conversations and skits will also be included.
Discipline
The student is expected to follow all discipline rules in the Maclay School Handbook. (See
handbook for details.) Pay special attention to rules on the honor code, cheating, plagiarism,
tardiness, absences and make-up work.) “On time” for Spanish means in your seat by the time the
bell rings. Absolutely no disrespect for fellow classmate or the teacher will be tolerated. Respect
others as individuals and treat others in a kind manner in which you would like to be treated.
Phones are not permitted in class unless you have permission by me.
Books and Supplies
The student is asked to bring all materials to class to avoid locker visits during class time. (Three
ring binder, workbook, lined white paper, pencil or pen and a highlighter.)
Grading
All grades are based on a 12 point scale (see handbook for details.) The student’s grades will be
averaged using the following percentages:
30% class participation/homework
40% tests
30% quizzes/projects
The semester culminates in an exam that includes all of the material taught during the semester (a
review sheet will be given to prepare students for the exam.) The exam counts 1/7 of the student’s
final grade in the course.
Rules regarding make-up work are stated in the handbook. Students are responsible for seeing me
about their make-up work upon their return from their absence.
Please sign to indicate that you have read and understand the policy sheet. Then have your
parent(s)/guardian do the same. Please detach and return the signed portion to me by Friday.
Keep the policy sheet in the front of your folder. I want this to be a fun and an exciting year for
